Last night, Victoria Park was transformed into a sea of candlelight as the 25th anniversary vigil of the Tiananmen Square crackdown took place. The lights were turned off and the names of the victims of 1989 were read out over the loudspeakers. Organisers estimate that 180,000 people attended, making it one of the largest turnouts in recent years.

Hong Kong was the only location in all of China that allowed people to pay respects to the victims of the incident (apart from a small gathering of a few thousand in Macau), and therefore many came from the mainland to mark the occasion.
