Popcorn and Opinions: October 30th

By Localiiz 28 October 2014
October 30th 2014 Daniel Radcliffe continues to try to shake free from the Harry Potter crown this week by sticking some horns on his head. Will it work or will he forever be our scarred little wizard? Howard Elias, is here to tell you which films are worth the price of admission.

Opening October 30th

Horns Kudos to Daniel Radcliffe for continuing to choose non-traditional projects that distance him from his Harry Potter days. Unfortunately, Horns can't decide if it's a dark comedy or a horror with a great soundtrack. The story of a man who wakes up one morning to find a set of satanic horns growing out from the top of his skull and empowered with equally devilish powers is certainly an intriguing concept but it just doesn't work on the screen. Showing everywhere.
John Wick I am not a Keanu Reeves fan but this film might just cause me to change my opinion of him. John Wick is a wild and bloody revenge thriller that will have you riveted to your seat right from start to finish. Violent, yes, but great fun. Showing at the AMC, Broadway, and Grand cinemas.
Ouija Ah, yes, Halloween. That time of year when our movie screens get filled with campy supernatural/horror films (see Horns, above). In Ouija, a group of friends must face their greatest fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. This is a wonderful film to watch if you're having trouble falling asleep. Showing everywhere. Howard Elias is a Hong Kong-based film critic and film event organiser. You can hear his reviews every Thursday morning at about 8:40 am on RTHK Radio 4, and read his reviews anytime on his website at howardforfilm.com. Got anything you'd like Localiiz to share?
