Champagne corks are popping at Localiiz today as we announce our successful acquisition of NecesCity, Hong Kong’s only digital lifestyle guide for men. Localiiz, the online marketing and lifestyle platform for Hong Kong SMEs, has added NecesCity to its portfolio of brands.
We will continue to operate NecesCity as a stand-alone entity targeting Hong Kong’s highly influential English-speaking male segment, and intend to grow the brand through additional platforms using Localiiz’s expertise and experience as an online and social media marketing platform.
NecesCity, the sophisticated and savvy digital magazine dedicated to Hong Kong’s male tastemakers, has its finger firmly on the pulse of the city. Through its website and email updates (‘pulsits’), NecesCity connects a loyal fraternity of urbane Hong Kong gentleman with the latest and hottest in nightlife, entertainment, dining, events, travel, style and everything in between.
NecesCity makes for a perfect addition to Localiiz’s existing stable of effective online products. In just 16 months, we have made a huge impact on Hong Kong’s digital market, introducing new levels of innovation and creativity to the local online marketing industry.
Chris Bannerman and Henning Voss founded NecesCity in 2009 as a free email lifestyle magazine for men, and now more than 6,500 subscribers receive daily or weekly email pulsits. Chris and Henning will remain involved in the business, working on a consulting basis with Localiiz and helping to grow the NecesCity brand even further.
Co-founded by Richard Codron and Neil Hyman in 2012, Localiiz boasts more than 13,500 subscribers, approximately 20,000 Facebook fans and has received more than 300,000 unique visitors to the site since its launch 16 months ago. The combined brands will reach 20,000 subscribers in Hong Kong on a daily or weekly basis, with a viewership of over 50,000 per month.
Commenting on the acquisition, Richard Codron said, “This is a really exciting development for Localiiz.. NecesCity is a great brand and has a targeted audience that will complement Localiiz’s wider reach in Hong Kong. We can see the two brands working in tandem to provide our clients with exposure to an expanded customer base. We intend to ensure that NecesCity retains the voice that has made it so successful to-date, whilst engaging Localiiz’s expertise to take the brand to the next level.”
Henning Voss, co-founder of NecesCity, commented, “Localiiz has made a terrific impact on Hong Kong’s digital market in the 16 months since its launch. We loved the innovation and creativity of the Localiiz team, and thought that they would be the right group to oversee the next stage of NecesCity’s development. We’re immensely proud of what we have done with NecesCity, and see Richard and the Localiiz team as being able to invest the time, capital and expertise required to ensure that NecesCity continues to move forward in Hong Kong, and into the rest of Asia and China, over the coming years.”
