Hong Kong in 1949: Will the Mainland Invade Hong Kong Again?

July 11th 2014

It’s clear that many Hong Kongers just aren’t happy about the current political climate, as we see increasing opposition to Mainland control over the city and a lack of universal suffrage. While some are set to take their concerns to the streets via the looming Occupy Central protests, others are appealing for clam and even silence, scared of a possible invasion from Mainland China.

In our research into the subject, we stumbled across this old video of Hong Kong in 1949, courtesy of British Pathé, documenting the British troops standing against a possible Mainland invasion. Too bad we don’t have those ballsy Brits to back us up this time!
