Hong Kong Hotel Awarded Most Forbes Stars

Hong Kong’s luxury market is once again in the global spotlight after a local hotel was awarded a record-setting quintuple Five-Star rating from Forbes. The Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong received Five-Star ratings for the hotel, its spa, and three restaurants including Pierre, Mandarin Grill + Bar, and its Krug Room. The hotel’s Man Wah restaurant was awarded a Four-Star rating bringing the grand total to 29 stars for the luxury property.

This is the first time in the history of Forbes that a city hotel has been awarded a quintuple Five-Stars.

Jonas Schuermann, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong’s general manager and area vice president, operations, tells Forbes that setting this record was always a goal. “We strive for nothing but the best. Achieving the Five-Stars is a validation and confirmation that the relentless quest for perfection is correct. It is tremendous and something to be very proud of to be recognized by our clients, guests and the industry.”

Schuermann adds that Five-Star service is not trained but rather a core quality of Mandarin Oriental’s employees. The hotel GM doesn’t plan on resting on the laurels of his staff given their success to date. As Art Basel approaches, the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, the official hotel for the event, is planning an art-inspired menu from Mandarin Grill + Bar as well as an Art of Pierre Gagnaire menu at its Pierre restaurant.

In related news, the Wynn Macau was also awarded a quintuple five-stars in the resort category, joining the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong as the only other quintuple Five-Star award winner in the history of the awards.
