Looking for your next good read, or struggling to get your kids to put down the iPad and pick up a book? If so, then you’re in luck because the annual Books for Love $10 charity book sale is returning to Taikoo Place this week with more than 100,000 titles to choose from.
The impressive sale is brought to us by Swire Properties’ Community Ambassador Programme and The Boys’ and Girls’ Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), which have been collecting new and second-hand books for the last two months as part of the Books for Love campaign. From 21 to 24 April (between 12noon and 8pm daily), Hong Kongers can snap up bargain reads for a great cause, with all proceeds going to the BGCA to help create more educational opportunities for children in need.
As well as sifting through thousands of titles, guests can enroll their little ones in a series of free-of-charge interactive storytelling workshops held by non-profit organisation Shakespeare4All Hong Kong, premium educational toy local startup TEBie, and a group of senior social workers from BGCA on April 23. As a special highlight, the semi-finals of the Children Storytelling Competition 2016 will take place at ArtisTree on the last day of the book sale on April 24.
Visitors who present a senior citizen card or student card on the last day of the event can also enjoy a buy-one-get-one-free discount, while shoppers who spend $300 on a single purchase can get a $20 voucher from eslite spectrum bookstore. Last year, the campaign collected more than 60,000 books, welcomed almost 15,000 visitors and raised a donation of more than $510,000. Can you help them smash their target?
