Under the Influence: A New Way to Experience Art - Just Add Alcohol

By priya_jhaveri 14 January 2013
Although many may think that creating a masterpiece while under the influence of alcohol is not such a great idea, there are others who believe beer is the very essence of inspiration. With this in mind, BestBev HK and TwentyBliss have teamed up for an event than allows Hong Kongers to experience art and beer in harmony, as selected work inspired by - and best appreciated with - the amber nectar goes on display at Sheung Wan’s Boom Gallery & Café.

All the works showcased at BeerArt for the next month have been submitted by Hong Kongers who appreciate the connection between drunkenness and creativity. While there was no stipulation for the works to contain beer-related elements, those that did stood a greater chance of being selected. In fact, TwentyBliss - a Hong Kong organisation inspired by the confidence and confusion that comes with being twenty-something - took the extra step of providing recycled beer bottles to those wanting to create sustainably boozy art. Thirsty for a beer? Check out these Craft Beer stores in Hong Kong They say a picture is worth 1,000 words and “beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy” (debatably uttered by Benjamin Franklin), so let the art do the talking and show the Big Guy your appreciation at the opening night on January 17th. BestBev HK will be serving up a variety of the world’s finest craft beers and quality ciders, with free beer offered to the first 50 people through the door.

Among the remarkable photographs, paintings, illustrations, graphics, drawings, sculptures (and beer), there will also be a camera giveaway, courtesy of TheQ Camera, at the end of the exhibition. Their team will be snapping happy throughout the opening night, so don’t forget to say cheese, and cheers!
