5 Ways to Celebrate Hong Kong National Day 2016

It's time to finish off those lingering mooncakes, because Hong Kong is moving swiftly onto the next celebration - National Day. With the most anticipated fireworks display of the year, a colourful afternoon of horse racing, and a patriotic flag ceremony to choose from, you won't be short of action this October 1. 1. The National Day Fireworks Display

It's a well known fact that Hong Kong likes to go all in with the National Day firework celebrations. Catch 23 minutes of dazzling action as more than 23,000 fireworks light up the sky over Victoria Harbour. You can also listen to synchronised music playing from the speakers along the waterfront, or tune in to Radio FM 97.6 - 98.9 to hear it. Where To Watch Whether you perch along the waterfront, or up high in a skyscraper, make sure you arrive early to ensure you bag a prime position. Here are a few top spots to catch all the action:
  • Along the Central Waterfront Promenade
  • Around the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Wan Chai
  • Along the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade
  • The West Kowloon Waterfront promenade
  • One of the lookout points in Victoria Peak
  • The Hung Hom Bypass between Salisbury Road and Hung Hom Road

2. Flag Raising Ceremony

ceremony Early birds can celebrate National Day by watching Hong Kong police officers conduct the flag raising ceremony. Set against the backdrop of the Forever Blooming Bauhinia Sculpture (the emblem of Hong Kong) outside the Hong Kong Convention Centre, the ceremony includes a rendition of the national anthem by the Police Band followed by a 10-minute musical performance. 3. National Day Horse Racing

National Day Horse Racing Sha Tin Hong Kong Feeling lucky? Join thousands of hopeful Hong Kongers and place your bets at this racing calendar highlight. Enjoy a full programme of unique cultural and entertainment performances and find out if your lucky stallion will help you win your fortune and scoop the National Day Cup. 4. The 2016 Macao International Fireworks Contest

macau Hop on a ferry and head over to Macau to watch Romania and China battle it out in a pyrotechnic contest for the best fireworks display. Aptly named 'Celebration in the Sky', this is one spectacular show you don't want to miss. You can catch the action just about anywhere in Macau, preferably where the Macau Tower is in full view.
