Summer is well and truly making its mark on the 852, and the city’s bars and restaurants are launching exciting new menus to keep us refreshed during the humid and scorchingly hot months ahead. We check out some of the best new eats in Hong Kong restaurants this June to keep you going through the heatwave.
Duck Ragu Tagliatelle
Italy meets Hong Kong at Root Three pop-up in PMQ Taste Kitchen
Food and beverage incubator PMQ Taste Kitchen is back this month with a brand-new protégé for their latest restaurant pop-up. Root Three, a Hong Kong-meets-Italy concept, features a duo of local chefs with Italian-trained skills. Expect fusion takes on some of your favourite Hong Kong local dishes, as well as oodles of homemade pastas.
Highlights include Handmade Cavatelli
($238), a tiny shell-like pasta with lobster in a tomato sauce, Octopus with Kimchi and Pickled Radish
($198), Chinese Fried Rice Cake
($128) with a modern twist, and Ravioli and Lobster “Sai Yung”
($198)—Root Three’s version of classic wonton noodles.
In addition, Root Three pledges awareness towards sustainable dining habits, promoting a menu that is considerate of agricultural issues. Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible. This unique pop-up is now open for lunch and dinner with a weekly rotating menu, and will run until 16 June.

New plant-based cuisine at Posto Pubblico
Highly-lauded as one of Hong Kong’s first farm-to-table eateries, Posto Pubblico is honouring the hard work of their local farm partners with the launch of a new meat-free menu. Executive chef Jay Cataplang is taking Italian-American pastas on a vegetarian and vegan makeover, with the colourful Homemade Orecchiette
($158) and the belly-warming Eggplant Bolognese
($168) as the centrepieces. And yes, these homemade pastas are made entirely without eggs!
We’re also looking forward to the plant-based twists on dishes like Beet Carpaccio
($108), dusted with Calabrian chilli, mint, and served with a pine nut aioli. There is also an inventive vegan take on Pizza Puttanesca
($188), which replaces anchovies with the salty and uncommon sea bean. Of course, no vegetarian and vegan menu is complete without Silicon Valley’s most famous meat alternative, Impossible Foods. What better way to recreate Posto Pubblico’s most beloved meatball dish than to offer a meat-free one? Introducing the Impossible Balls
Dessert is vegan too—the Banana Nutella Ice-Cream
($48) is made with homemade sweetened vegan butter and toasted hazelnuts, served on a slice of freshly-baked ciabatta. Posto Pubblico’s new plant-based à la carte menu is now available for lunch and dinner.

Casa Lisboa Vegagna
Summer delights at Casa Lisboa
Chef Jesus Pascual has returned from his stint at Gaggan in Bangkok to join Chef Fábio Pombo at Portuguese favourite Casa Lisboa for a seasonal revamp. With the launch of a new summer menu, this Wyndham Street establishment continues its tradition of serving up contemporary Portuguese creations rarely found in the culinary landscape of Hong Kong.
Clean flavours are taking the lead with the refreshing Casa Lisboa Vegagna
($128), made with a trio of basic ingredients: aubergine, tomato, and zucchini. But don’t let its simple looks fool you; this vegetarian take on lasagna is deceptively difficult in its preparation and requires a delicate cooking process to achieve consistent textures and sweetness. The Cozido Soup
($88), too, gets a Casa Lisboa makeover; commonly known as a traditional, meat-heavy stew, this version is presented with an elegant spin in flavour and appearance.
Summer dishes are mostly light and bright, but we wouldn’t pass up on the heavier Iberico Pork Chop with Apple and Madeira Sauce
($280) and Short Ribs with Alheira Migas
($310)—these melt-in-your-mouth cuts are a rarity to experience. Must-order dishes include the Mango and Passion Fruit “Burrata”
($90), a clever imitation of cow’s milk cheese that is actually a pudding made with Mascarpone cheese and cream. Though Italian in concept, the idea of serving a cheese and fruit dessert is truly a Portuguese culinary tradition.

Charcoal-Grilled Mexican Street Corn
Colourful tacos and sharing plates at Taqueria Super Macho
Blacksheep Restaurants’ latest arrival comes in the form of an uber-casual taco bar, which we expect will enliven the Mexican offerings in town. Cheekily-named Taqueria Super Macho is gearing up to be the hippest after-hours hangout in town, with beachy vibes, holiday-inspired drinks, and stimulating seafood-centric dishes in tow.
Helmed by Chilean-born chef Billy Otis, this Baja-influenced eatery features ceviches, small plates, and a host of tacos, including Fish al Pastor
($38), with achiote chilli, pineapple, and crispy bacon, and Adobo-Marinated Steak
($38) with spiced tenderloin, onion, and cilantro. For the uninitiated, Mexican adobo—different from Filipino adobo—refers to a seasoning or marinade that was historically made using indigenous ingredients and colonial Spanish spices. Typically, it includes vinegar, paprika, oregano, garlic, and salt. All tacos come undressed as well, so diners can have a ball selecting and layering their own toppings, salsas, and condiments.
Pair that off with a Mango Margarit
a ($88) or a Passion Fruit Daiquiri
($88) and it almost feels like you’ve arrived at your next poolside vacation. Personally, we’re particularly looking forward to chowing down on a few skewers of the authentic Charcoal-Grilled Mexican Street Corn

New dinner menu at Mr & Mrs Fox
Quarry Bay’s three-storied bar and restaurant Mr & Mrs Fox has launched a collection of new dinner items that feature the best of land and sea. Signature dishes include the ambitious Shellfish Platter
($698–988), featuring seasonal oysters, crab claw, mussels, red prawns, and more, and the Chicken and Foie Gras Terrine
($155), served with a crown of British Piccalilli. For something a bit less heavy, there is the Fox ‘Chopped’ Salad
($145), replete with raw and roasted vegetables tossed in a house marinade.
No chophouse would be remiss in their steak offerings, and Mr & Mrs Fox are going big with their 1.2kg Tomahawk Steak
($1880), perfectly sized for sharing—or for dining solo, if getting the meat sweats is totally up your alley. We’d suggest to start off with artisanal cocktails on the chic ground floor, move upstairs for a hearty meal, and sneak a peek at the secretive second floor reserved for private dining before you end the night (if you can locate the hidden button used to access the room, that is!).

Saturday night brunch at Brickhouse
LKF Brickhouse is bringing the party to the dinner table with their brand-new ¿ONTAS? night brunch. From 8–10.30pm on Saturday nights, this stalwart Mexican restaurant is offering a free-flow dinner set that features a slew of Brickhouse’s most popular dishes.
