Cupid rhymes with stupid—just thought we’d throw that out there, because 14 February is this Friday and for some, that means anti-Valentine’s Day! The anti-romantic celebration is just as big as the traditional celebration of V-Day, and we are all about self-love this year. Here’s a round-up of things to do at home and around town to get in the spirit of anti-Valentine’s Day, because all of me loves all of... me!

Anti-Valentine’s Day at The Pontiac

Go wild at Anti-Valentine’s Day parties

The best alternative to Valentine’s Day is, of course, the exact opposite of a celebration of love! Both The Pontiac and Ophelia are hosting anti-Valentine’s Day parties for every who’s single, complicated, divorced, or more—who really needs a reason to party against traditional norms, anyway? Whatever reason you may have that is leaving you not in the mood to celebrate anything lovey-dovey, rest assured that you are not alone.

Send Anti-Valentine’s Day cards

Instead of the ordinary and cringe-worthy V-Day cards you see smattered across shop windows proclaiming a love that will somehow outlast eternity, how about a more practical card for your loved ones? If anyone is up for some banter, ASOS and Typo by CottonOn have stocked up on anti-Valentine’s Day designs this year. Get ready for a dose of reality because Valentine's Day is always great for well-intended pranks and a dash of snarkiness!

Celebrate Harley Quinn’s epic break-up

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, DC’s latest silver-screen offering sees a convenient Hong Kong release. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the Harley Quinn-focused spin-off from Suicide Squad, kicks off with Joker breaking up with Harley and throwing her out on the streets, finally ending their abusive relationship. Find out how Harley picks herself up and rocks Gotham City with her new girl squad.

Swing at an anti-Valentine’s Day piñata

There’s nothing as satisfying as hitting something as hard as you can in hopes of breaking it. Don’t worry, we’re not celebrating violent tendencies—we’re just talking about piñatas! Te Quiero Mucho is hosting an all-you-can-eat taco night ($318 for two hours) from 13 to 15 February with free-flow cocktails and wine at both of their locations. Take a sip of Your Ex’s Tears and take a swing at their Stupid Cupid piñatas—you have their consent to stick a picture of your ex on it!

Watch movies on how it’s better to love yourself

Let’s take a break from all the movies about suffocating love, bitterness, break-ups, and everything in between, and let’s spare some time for ourselves. After all, who else is going to love you more than... well, you? Some light-hearted film choices include How To Be Single and 500 Days of Summer, so prepare to get cosy on the sofa with freshly-made popcorn at the ready.

Test your knowledge at Valentine’s Day trivia

How much do you really know about Valentine’s Day? Well, it’s time for you to put yourself to the test at Beef & Liberty and their special ‘80s Quiz: Valentine’s Edition. There will be happy hour all night long, burgers, shakes, prizes, and banter, banter, banter. We go all-out at quizzes, so we will be revising fun facts and historical facts throughout the week—y’all better be prepared!

Make a playlist about being single and loving it

We are up for making a playlist solely for this day, a playlist dedicated for self-love, being single, and loving it. So all the Single Ladies put your hands up, we are done with Boy Problems, and we will be walking out of that door feeling Good As Hell because It’s My Life and What’s Love Got To Do With It? High fives to everyone who can name all the artists mentioned just now. We will be blasting that playlist at the office, in the car, on the street—you name it!

Celebrate Galentine’s Day with your pals

Bringing all love back to our homegirls, this is the holiday we need to officiate ASAP! Round up all the gals, get dolled-up, and grab drinks at the bar to let loose. We even found this card game that looks like it’s made for Galentine’s Day, so you can get to know your girls better than ever with Truth or Dare questions and “Never Have I Ever”s. Throw in a couple of bouquets and sparkles to remind everyone that you is smart, you is kind, you is important!

Having lived in Hong Kong, Beijing, and London sure is a fun fact whenever people try to guess Ching’s accent. She loves switching between all these language channels and her “mother tongue” is just determined by how many drinks she’s had for the night! She loves movies, travelling, and exploring cities, from hidden alleys to gourmet dining, so feel free to hit her up if you need any suggestions for dinner!
