Video: Giant War Horse Spotted Galloping Around Hong Kong

By Sophie Pettit 12 April 2019

It's not every day that you see a huge horse trotting along Stanley Beach or The Peak – let alone a life-sized puppet – so you can image the surprise of gobsmacked Hongkongers when Joey, the star of the upcoming theatre production War Horse, was recently spotted galloping around the city.

;t=34sThe impressive 50 kilo star of the show was lapping up the attention as he greeted Hongkongers on St. Stephen’s Beach, Stanley Market, The Peak, and Central Pier. Like many celebrities, Joey was spending some leisurely time exploring the city in the lead up to his debut Hong Kong performance which kicks off (pun intended) on May 10 at the Lyric Theatre, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Unsurprisingly, he is quite used to all this attention, having been seen on the stage by nearly 8 million people around the world, in 97 cities in 11 countries. The handsome stallion will be joined by the talented cast of the show to tell his heartwarming story of how he was sold to the Cavalry and shipped to France at the outbreak of the First World War. Caught in enemy fire, he embarked on an extraordinary journey that saw him serve on both sides, before he found himself alone in no man’s land. But all is not lost, as his doting owner, the young Albert, never forgot his beloved steed and set out on a daring rescue to save his buddy. Oh man, we're already reaching for the tissues!

We don't know about you, but we cannot wait to see Joey in action on stage this May, and it seems we aren't the only ones. Due to overwhelming demand for tickets, the producers have extended the season for one week until 2 June 2019, to give us more time to enjoy him. So what are you waiting for, grab your tickets now and trot on over to the Lyric Theatre. Better still, keep your eyes peeled for our amazing competition to win tickets to see War Horse. Coming soon!Standard ticket prices range from $395 to $1,245 and be purchased on HK Ticketing.
