Spotlight: Top 6 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

By Sophie Pettit 5 May 2016
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and this is the year to step it up a notch. Forget the last-minute flowers, box of chocolates, and generic greeting card. We say go that extra mile to show your gratitude by giving her a creative treat to remember. Whatever your budget, these great ideas will show your mama just how much you cherish her.

1. Grow an Indoor Garden

plant Whether your mum has a passion for cooking, or simply loves to feel connected with nature, Hong Kong based company Okidome has come up with a brilliant idea to bring indoor gardening to our homes. The Eden Suction Planter ($148 at 10% discount) is the first plant pot that attaches securely to windows, smooth tiles, and even your fridge, so you can grow plants without cluttering up your kitchen worktops - perfect if your mum loves to cook with fresh herbs, or fancies a minty mojito. Each pot can hold up to 5kg and is easy to attach and remove without the need for glue or screws. It also has a removable inner pot with a hidden reservoir for easy watering. Practical and fun - we love it! Why not build her a living wall by nestling a set of them together?

2. Buy Her Edible Flowers

Award-winning spa Sense of Touch has designed three special packages to pamper your hard-working mom. Treat her like a queen with Delightful Mom ($1,480/2hrs), which combines a hydrating facial, express manicure, and express pedicure, as well as moisturiser to continue the pampering back at home. Or join her for the Indulgent Mom and Daughter package ($1,880/1hr for two) and enjoy each others’ company as you indulge in a customised facial or tension relief massage, followed by your choice of an express pedicure or express manicure, and rounded off with a $300 product credit. Alternatively, let her be pampered with her choice of favourite treatment of ageing repair facial, de-stress massage, relaxing nail session, detoxifying body treatment, or waxing with the Blissful Mom package ($2,460). Meanwhile, new mothers will be swept away by the Mummy Moments post-natal treatment available at The Mandarin Spa from May 8 onwards. The spa is inviting those with tiny tots to experience a 60 minute post-natal massage ($1,400 on weekdays and $1,500 on weekends) or extended 90 minute treatment ($1,800 on weekdays or $1,900 on weekends) that also features a results-driven abdominal binding treatment ($490) developed in partnership with Karen Loke, founder of Restoring Mums. It might sound a bit radical, but both treatments are holistic methods to help mothers return to pre-baby shape after welcoming their new arrival into the family. A perfect way to relax, renew, and recharge. Contact the spa to make reservations.
