The world’s biggest electronic dance music festival is ready to stop in Macau, but before we hit the Road to Ultra, we stole a moment with headlining Dutch DJ Nicky Romero as he warms up the decks for an epic night that's not to be missed. LOCALIIZ: What did you know about Macau before deciding to play there this weekend for Road To Ultra Macau? ROMERO: I know that it’s the gambling capital of the world…:P and I’ve heard that the local food is really good – looking forward to trying it. LOCALIIZ: How will you be warming up for your debut appearance at Road To Ultra Macau? ROMERO: Well, seeing as it’s China’s first taste of Ultra, I am going to make sure I am very well prepared! I will have the best tracks ready to spin to show China what Ultra is all about. LOCALIIZ: Having toured all over the world, do you feel you have to adapt much to cultural variation in music festivals worldwide or does it always feel like a globally-translatable thing? ROMERO: I don’t think there’s really much to have to adapt to, as people are drawn to festivals for the love of music. It doesn’t matter what language you speak or what your religion is, you’re surrounded by people who are there to have a good time and enjoy the music! LOCALIIZ: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be? ROMERO: I would love to work with Coldplay! I can only imagine how awesome the result would be. LOCALIIZ: What’s your favourite track to play right now? ROMERO: My track with Volt & State, ‘Warriors’. It’s one of those very anthemic songs that really gets the crowd going. It gives me goosebumps! LOCALIIZ: Any new genres or sounds you're thinking will blow up this/next year? ROMERO: Future House and Deep House are two genres that are really blowing up and will continue to do so! LOCALIIZ: What can we expect from you next? ROMERO: Expect lots of new music coming your way very soon! LOCALIIZ: Do you have a few tips for going to a music festival? ROMERO: Be smart! Look after yourself and the others around you. Don’t ruin your fun or your friend’s fun by being careless! LOCALIIZ: What does Ultra mean to you? ROMERO: I have a very big place in my heart for Ultra! I love being able to perform and being a part of such an amazing event. LOCALIIZ: If you had 24 hours and you can go anywhere and do anything – travel is no barrier – where would you go? ROMERO: I would just spend my time at home as I already travel so much! There’s no place like home. LOCALIIZ: Do you plan to explore Hong Kong since it is right next door during your performance in Macau? If so, what do you hope to do? ROMERO: I am not sure if I am going to have a lot of time to explore, but if I get the chance I would love to go to the Temple Street Night Market and my friend told me about chartering a junk boat to explore the islands. I think that would be awesome! NOW AVAILABLE! Get in the mood to party with the official album Road to Ultra: Macau from Love Da Records. Featuring the hottest dance anthems from the night; DVBBS, Nicky Romero, also some of the top DJs ranked in DJMag and also major UMF mainstage performers Deorro, Vicetone, Paul van Dyk, Blasterjaxx, and more, this mix is guaranteed to deliver you the full musical blast of the festival itself!
