PHOTOS: The Beauty of Reality

By Sophie Pettit 8 May 2015
We all love to look at beautiful photographs of our city, whether they show us the twinkling skyline at night or bustling streets bursting with life and colour. But rarely do we see a picture that shows us the harder side of life in Hong Kong, which is very much a reality for many of our city's residents. For street sleepers and beggars, to the elderly and less abled, every day life can be a struggle, and we can forget this as we plough through our busy days, but Instagram user Jays Lings is pointing his lens at these forgotten residents. Using his mobile phone, he captures real life scenes he stumbles across while out and about in the city to tell the story of individuals who face hardships every day. "People often like to take some beautiful pictures, but in my collection you will not find very beautiful photos, but instead some very real images of life in Hong Kong," he tell Localiiz. "I love to take photos of parties under class, because here they are a neglected group, who are so often forgotten. Through my photos, which I take in black and white, I hope to show people the reality of life around us and the story within each shot. I hope they will appreciate some beauty beyond the picture and feel how my eyes see Hong Kong." We for one think these photos are beautiful, however could we get some more context with each shot?
