Weekly Pupdates: Animals in need of a fur-ever home

By Stephanie Lown 31 March 2020

If you are thinking about getting a furry companion of your own, you may want to consider adopting from one of these rescue shelters before hitting the pet shop. Not only are you helping to sustain these charities by adopting from their shelters, but since they are run by animal welfare advocates, you can also be sure that they will be able to match the right rescue animal to cater to your lifestyle, ensuring a long-lasting and harmonious relationship. To help make things easier for you, we’ve put together a weekly roundup of the most adorable companion animals available for adoption across Hong Kong.

Before you proceed, have you considered what it takes to adopt a rescue animal? Are you able to afford the cost of taking care of an animal? Is your home safe enough for a dog? Don’t worry, you can find all the answers you need in our guide to everything you need to consider before adopting a dog in Hong Kong.

Yuki

Age: 1 year old

This restricted confinement has unfortunately left her with some posture issues, but it has not affected her mental health or ability to bond with humans. She is a smart and caring cat, who is still a little underweight due to often being left unfed, but she is very food-driven now. She is an adorable cat who can instantly win your heart with her lovely character and big green eyes and will repay your attention with plenty of love and hugs!

Best suited for: Singles, couples, or families who are ready to love a cuddly feline friend!

Notes: To meet Yuki, contact TAILS Lantau.

To adopt Yuki, fill out this adoption questionnaire or email TAILS at [email protected] for adoption and foster enquiries.

They’ve never been apart either. She needs a place to grow, though not in size, and a place to gain confidence and be a treasured companion. She is affectionate and enjoys lounging around whenever she can.

Best suited for: A household without children.

He is a friendly and gentle senior boy, who loves treats, gets on well with children, and is happy to rest and cuddle all day.

Best suited for: Someone with a terrace or garden. His kidney failure means needs frequent bathroom trips.

Notes: Ben is in URGENT need of a foster! Please get in touch with HK Paws if you are able to foster Ben, even short-term. He gets on well with other dogs, although finds puppies annoying.

To adopt Ben, fill out this adoption questionnaire or WhatsApp Kat at (+852) 9485 5188 for more information.

🐾

Woody

Age: 5 months old

Gender: M

Description: As a pup, Woody and his siblings were found alone, dumped on the streets. Because of this, he is now shy and not very comfortable around loud noises and cars. But with further socialisation to build his confidence, a bit of training, love, and patience, he can become the perfect lifelong companion. He is house-trained, gentle, and loves good hugs as well as playing with children. He has a lovely character that we’re sure you’ll fall in love with as soon as you meet him. His brothers Beau and Bandit have already found their forever homes and we hope he will soon too.

Best suited for: Singles, couples or a family who already have a dog, as he enjoys spending time and playing with others.

🐾

Oats

Age: 5 years old

Breed: Pomeranian

Description: He’s the cutest little guy to look at, but like so many of his breed, looks can be deceptive. We know from his past ‘keeper’ that he was abused, surrendered, and re-homed through another charity only to be abandoned or lost again. Oats has trust issues as a result of his past and is reactive. He’s a one- to two-person dog and not for the squeamish, as he is scared of the unknown. If you leave him to his own devices, he’ll come round in his own time and when he does, he’ll be your forever friend and the love of your life. Loves his walks and the world outside and his own bed, which is his castle. He also loves food so he can be as good as gold for treats.

Best suited for: A calm home without children or pets.

Notes: Come meet Oats at the next Dog Adoption Sunday (22 March) at Peak Café Bar (9–13 Shelley Street, Soho) between 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm.

To adopt Oats, please fill out an adoption application or email [email protected] for more information.
