Game On! Hong Kong's Best Bars With Games

By Jenny Leung 8 December 2017
Let's face it – there are more bars than there are coffee shops in Hong Kong, and with such fierce competition, there's no choice but to step up their game – literally! This might explain the overwhelming number of beer pong and billiard bars that have opened up in recent years – a trend that has undeniably dominated the city's nightlife scene. So if bog-standard happy hours just don't cut it anymore, and you want to add more excitement to your night out, check out these hotspots.

Zerve and Zerve Plus Bar

Spread across a two-storey venue, Zerve is definitely one of the more popular names on the street. There are pool tables, dart machines, all the beer pong tables you need, and if you're up for a bit of console gaming, they even have games like Nintendo Switch and Street Fighter on the 8th floor. And that's not all folks, this beer pong haven constantly hosts different types of competitions with prizes such as straight up cash (who doesn't love that) to gob-smacking goodies like festival tickets. We know it's a lot to take in so make sure you stay tuned on their Facebook page for all the latest.

Zerve & Zerve Plus Bar, 8 - 9/F, Zing!, 38 Yiu Wa Street, Causeway Bay, (+852) 5688 2723

Tikitiki Bowling Bar

Bowling is not often the first idea that pops into your head when you're making your weekend plans, but perhaps Tikitiki Bowling Bar can help change that. Experience the thrill of knocking down bowling pins against a beautiful video-wall backdrop on their Krakatoa bowling lanes, sip on some of their exotic cocktails like Soultini at the Sea Dogs & Mermaid bar, or even chow down on some Island fusion cuisine at their Beach Bums & Cannibals restaurant (where do they come up with these brilliant names?). Stunningly decorated, Tikitiki gives bowling a whole new makeover. Tikitiki Bowling Bar, 4/F, Centro, 1A Chui Tong Road, Sai Kung, (+852) 2657 8488

If you're sick of beer pong and pool tables, then Strokes is the place for you. Combining all the fun of crazy golf, with the stylish ambience of a lounge bar, the 9,000 square-foot bar and restaurant offers a healthy and guilt-free food menu, fun cocktails, artisan drinks, and a killer happy hour ($5 snacks with every purchase of alcoholic drink). Located in the heart of bustling Causeway Bay, Strokes is an easy to get to venue that provides the perfect setting for any occasion. Strokes Hong Kong, 1/F Fashion Walk, 9 Kingston St, Causeway Bay, (+852) 2877 1800

Joe’s Billiards & Bar

Dare I say it - Joe's Billiards is most certainly one of the OGs when it comes to beer pong in Hong Kong. This classically stylish billiard bar not only has your standard pool tables, darts machines, and beer pong tables, but also a full-on display of more than 100 pieces of pool and dart collectibles and accessories at their Tsim Sha Tsui location, just waiting for you to take them home. And we must give Joe's food menu a shout-out, as it has everything from your healthy green salads to giant snail sausage (our favourite are the Monster Wings), which are sure to satisfy your mid-gaming hunger pangs. Joe's Billiards & bar, 11/F, 1 Knutsford Terrace, Tsim Sha Tsui, (+852) 3188 1010 5/F Mong Kok City Centre, 80 Sai Yeung Choi Street, (+852) 3188 3818

Carnival Bar

Step right up, step right up - the Carnival has arrived! Aside from the standard dart machines and beer pong tables, the real star of the show at this quirky venue is definitely the LED light-up craps table, which can also be converted into a game of Rainbow Coin Toss, and an electronic roulette table in the Enchanted Room used for private parties. And how can we not mention the super Instagrammable cocktails and shots on offer. With a combination of bright lights, fun games, and great music, you don't want to miss out on a night at the Carnival. Carnival Bar, 6/F, 8 Observatory Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, (+852) 3705 3985

Located in the heart of Wan Chai, Scratch is your go-to if you want to pot a few balls and challenge fellow players along the way. Join in on their 8-ball tournament every Monday for a chance to win a few bar tabs on the house, and if you're really in it for the big game, stack up scores on their ranking board by winning tournaments and advancing through stages to claim a spot in the top eight and qualify for the grand end-of-year tournament. Winner! Scratch, 2/F, 89 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, (+852) 2529 8080

PONG Knutsford

If you're looking for some all-round boozy entertainment, then Pong is the place to be. Decked out with award-winning digital PONGConnect tables, with a special PARTYConnect table, an interactive touch screen table offering a variety of multi-player games, PONG Knustford is perfect for a night out with the gang. You can even book yourself a karaoke room and turn your night into a private music fest! Pong Knutsford, 2/F, 10 Knutsford Terrace, Tsim Sha Shui, (+852) 2536 0322

Club Primo

Heading down to Lan Kwai Fong on the weekend is almost like a ritual for many club-goers in Hong Kong, but trying to squeeze yourself onto the dance floor whilst successfully protecting your drink can always be a bit of a challenge - so why not give yourself a different kind of challenge and avoid the overcrowded space of a nightclub altogether? Head on over to Club Primo for some beer pong action and test your concentration skills against heavy, thumping beats from some of the finest local and international DJs around. Alternatively, why not roll up your sleeves and take part in some of their crazy competitions like their recent JägerBomb Pong Competition (sounds pretty lethal doesn't it). Either way, we promise you'll be in for a fun ride. Club Primo, 7/F, 18 On Lan Street, Central, (+852) 6288 2830

Versus Stadium

Sitting in front of your PC and battling warlords has never been this exciting! Hong Kong's first and only e-sports bar and restaurant, Versus Stadium, invites all cyber game lovers to get in on the action. Featuring weekly events with professional e-sport players visiting from all over the world, players can take to the stage either teaming up with friends for a game of FIFA, or challenge their rivals at a few rounds of Street Fighter. Even if you're not so familiar with PC games, you can still enjoy a game of beer pong, but we can't promise you won't get distracted by the massive on-screen game plays and enthusiastic audience. Versus Stadium, 1/F, D2 Place ONE, 9 Cheung Yee Street, Lai Chi Kok, (+852) 2591 9208

Billidart Restaurant & Bar

Tucked away on the upper floors of Kwan Chart Tower on Tonnochy Road, Billidart is another classic that has been on the local nightlife scene for a while. With drinks, music, food, and games, this is your one-stop hub that has everything you need for a good night out. Both their 7th and 8th floor is available for walk-ins or private functions, and whilst the 8th floor has a more classic vibe to your ordinary sports bar, the 7th floor boasts a raw industrial style with vibrant graffiti murals drawn by local artists on all the walls. They also do a sweet buy-one-get-one-free drink deal during happy hour so it's a great place for whenever you and your buddies are in need of some after-work tipples. Billidart Restaurant & Bar, 7 - 8/F, Kwan Chart Tower, 6 Tonnochy Road, Wan Chai, (+852) 2144 3010/3000

HQ by Terrace Concepts

We really hate to sound repetitive, but pool tables and beer pong seem to be a must-have these days. However, what separates HQ from other bars with games is its dedicated arcade zone specifically designed for those who want to get their hands on some old-school arcade games like Mario Kart. And to top it all off, they even have an outdoor area where guests can enjoy a good Shisha or Hookah with a wide selection of flavours out on the balcony. HQ is definitely a perfect headquarters for everyone to gather. HQ by Terrace Concepts, 3/F, 1 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, (+852) 2602 7118

Freshly arriving into town, Breeze is the latest addition to the nightlife scene in Causeway Bay. Featuring standard pool and beer pong tables, there are also HD screens for viewing live sports, a full bar, and plenty of nibbles to fill your appetite. Racks MDB

Racks MDB does not mess about when it comes to having fun - no over-the-top interiors or extravagant set-ups as soon as you step inside, the only thing you need to think about is how to have the most fun. With a heavy rotation of 90s hip-hop jams playing in the background, you can reminisce about the good old days whilst potting a few balls on their pool tables, or have a jab at a game of darts. Conveniently located in the heart of Central's drinking scene, it's also your perfect gaming venue. Racks MDB, 2/F, Winning Centre, 46-48 Wyndham Street Central, (+852) 2686 0400

Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Jenny grew up with the best of both worlds. She loves just about anything to do with music and doesn’t shy away from belting out a tune or two when it comes to karaoke. If she’s not out and about exploring the city and practising her photography skills, she’s probably tucked up in bed with a book or glued to her laptop doing her online shopping.
