Now that we are no longer sweating in the heat, it is time to plan our favourite autumn activity: picnics! Hong Kong has its fair share of greenery and there is no better way to enjoy them than by chowing down quality bites and booze. Planning a picnic may seem like a hassle, but we have your back. In no particular order, here are some places offering ready-made picnic hampers that you can either pick up or have delivered to you. From cheeses and wine to blankets and tableware, picnicking has never been easier!
Take your day out to new heights with Rajasthan Rifles! Plan ahead for your picnic atop the Peak and pick up delicious picnic baskets ($498 for two people) from Black Sheep Restaurants’ Anglo-Indian restaurant that evokes memories of the military mess halls of old. Each hamper comes packed to the brim with fried peanuts & cashews, samosa chutney, the signature chicken tikka club sandwiches, seasonal fruits & clotted cream, chocolate brownie & toffee pudding, nimbu soda (an Indian-style lime soda), and water. It’s great for a romantic date at the park, a small birthday celebration, or even just for relaxing in the great outdoors with friends. Couriered to your location in an elegant wicker basket that you get to keep afterwards, the seven courses cover all the key categories of picnic food, with the option of adding a bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne for just $400. All you’ve got to do is lay down your blanket and wait for the picnic to come to you!

Filled with everything you will possibly need, their picnic hampers come with five bites and beverages, a cosy blanket, crockery, and cutlery to finish. There are three different kinds of baskets for you to choose from, including the Baron Basket ($450 for two), the Earl Basket ($590 for two), and the Duke Basket ($980 for six). If you’re worried that your appetite will get the better of you, you can always add on extra bites to your basket. Remember to place your order via email at least three days in advance, so that you can just stroll into one of their locations across town and pick up your picnic!
Renowned for the cheese rooms within their restaurants where customers can savour a wide range of cheeses, Classified is the real deal for any cheesy business. That being said, they offer three different cheese-themed picnic baskets for gourmands to take their meals outdoors. To start things off easy, the Cheese Enthusiast ($788) comes with five different kinds of cheeses and two wines to accompany them. You can take things up a notch to the Cheese Master ($1,288) level for a larger variety of cheeses and different wines for those who know how to thoroughly enjoy the delicacy! If you’re well and truly a master of cheese, you won’t mind splurging on the Cheese Connoisseur ($1,888), which boasts eight kinds of cheese, crostini, champagne, and a lovely Pinot noir for pairing.
You may not expect L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon to have anything picnic-related, but their location in Landmark Atrium actually offers a bakery box ($130) that is perfect for a lazy picnic around Hong Kong Park. Every day, they put together three bakery boxes with nine freshly-baked items, which include croissants, danishes, and other traditional patisseries. You can call ahead to place your order and pick up some drinks to go with it for the perfect afternoon out. Its offerings might not be as varied as other picnic baskets on this list, but it’s a great solution if you’ve got picnic plans and forgot to plan ahead.

For a more bespoke and thorough option, plenty of upscale supermarkets have a personal shopping option where they can pack together any requested items according to your budget. Great Food Hall, City’Super, and Oliver’s are just a few of the places that offer this custom shopping experience, whether it is for a special occasion or no occasion at all. Just approach their customer service counter and ask for a bespoke hamper—they will then arrange for a member of staff to bring you around the supermarket and pick out the freshest products available on the day!
