10 best dog-friendly restaurants & cafés in Kennedy Town & HKU

Just in between Kennedy Town and Shek Tong Tsui lies the Western District Public Cargo Working Areas, a.k.a. the famous Instagram Pier. Apart from being somewhere to take photos that will make numbers on social media, the area also makes for a lovely day out for you and the pup, strolling along the waterfront and socialising with other four-legged friends off-leash.

The best thing to cap off an active day out with the dog is to grab a light bite or drink at a dog-friendly eatery, so thank god there are quite a few in the neighbourhood. Be sure to check the menu below and bookmark your favourite spots, too!

14 SOUTH LANE

Slow things down at this bakery café, where the white marble countertops are adorned with pastries, and its wholesome, hearty menu with vegan options get top marks from its patrons. Be sure to grab their signature avocado chilli fried eggs ($128) or sweet potato coconut pancake ($118) for the humans, and a couple of Woof Twisters for the pups, made by social enterprise Cookie Smiles.

Affee

This café has fantastic coffees and relaxing vibes, but honestly the real icing on the cake is that dogs are welcome inside! Having a drink at Affee is like going around to your mates for a fantastic brew—hot or cold. Relax by the large window, or chill on the rug next to their guitar and stereo, and expect to find other like-minded dog owners there. If you can’t stay for long, you can always grab one of their bottled cold brews or house blend coffee beans to go. Pro tip: bring your own cup for a $3 discount!

ARF Café

Dessert and coffee anyone? ARF Café offers an array of brunch and luncheon items on their menu, but it’s their selection of drip coffee, daily cakes, and waffle dishes that have us chomping at the bit! Whether you purely have a sweet tooth or are a fan of the sweet and savoury combo, they’ll definitely have something to fit everyone’s appetites! Pasta and risotto? Check. Sweet bites? Check.

They’ve also got crepes—sweet and savoury—galore, and there’s nothing that a good old chicken & waffles can’t sort out! The beautiful mismatched coffee mugs, retro-style posters, and coffee mug rack give the place an eclectic, vintage shop vibe.

Chill and Grill HK

Who doesn’t love to chill and grill? This newly-opened establishment on Cadogan Street welcomes you and your dogs to dine in and enjoy a feast of beautifully prepared meats. From fresh and spicy wood-roasted prawns ($288) and 48-hour slow-roasted lamb shoulder ($388) that just falls off the bone, to a duck ragu rigatoni ($148) that is simply to die for, meat lovers are in good hands. This place is probably best left to the carnivores though, as there is only one veggie dish in the organic vegetable linguine ($128)!

The high bar stools and open design of this European bar make this a buzzy evening spot, and although dogs are only allowed on the ground level, an intimate tasting room that accommodates eight is tucked away upstairs for more private parties.

Winston’s Coffee

The nice open layout of the K-town branch of Winston’s Coffee makes it a wonderful social spot for a nice catch-up over a cup of Joe. Coffee is not the only thing on the menu, of course, as you can add CBD oil to your caffeine dose, enjoy sandwiches and pastries during the day, or even knock back a few craft beers, wines, and cocktails at night (espresso martini, anyone?). If you head over there between 5pm and 10pm on Thursdays, beat the bartender at “Toss The Boss” on a single coin toss and get your entire tab for free! Game on!
