Every year on 8 March, girls and women all over the world get together and celebrate.

On this day, women are honoured and praised for their achievements despite the obstacles they have encountered along the way. It all started when female factory workers demonstrated for shorter working hours, higher pay, and equal rights to vote all the way back in 1908 in the US.

It has, in later years, continued to be a day symbolising the leaps and strides women all over the world make to achieve equality. Read on for the best events that celebrate women in Hong Kong on this special day, so you can celebrate yourself, your BFF, your mother, your sister, and all women out there!

Speakers at the panels include a CEO, a pilot, and a corporate partner that have worked their way to where they are today. A group consisting of a doctor, an award winner, and a clinical counsellor will lead the conversation on the night. The quiz will test your knowledge about the female body, the great achievements of women, discrimination, and everything else women related.

If the quiz is not enough for you, then head back to Eaton on 9 March for a full night of female power. Learn how to mix up some great cocktails at the cocktail masterclass with Campari ambassador and mixologist Delphine Kong, followed by a tasting of six different cocktails brought to you by Kong, Kaylie Leung, and Asta Chan. End the night with inspirational stories shared by world-famous choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.

The line-up of events continues on 10 March with a screening of short films in collaboration with Nowness Asia partners featuring feminism and confrontation of gender stereotyping. Kim uses cryptic colour tones and traditional painting techniques, blurring the boundaries between background and foreground. She is inspired by her surroundings, whilst Im focuses on how we distinguish ourselves from one another and the coexistence of different boundaries that shift in an ever-changing environment.

Modern female beauty

Are you tired of what modern society sees as female beauty? This exhibition hosted by Streams Gallery works against this fantasy in powerful ways. “Divine Feminine” presents the works of three European artists who have defined their own beauty by using pop art, bold colours, and bold lines, creating an exhibition full of happiness, wholesomeness, and female power. Van Lanigh uses her artwork to escape from reality, striving to find peace in chaos. Escapism is also found in the fictional world with dreamlike landscapes and creatures of Maddalena Fanfani’s art, whilst Yana Medow celebrates the human body by painting exaggerated body parts in a comical style driven by human ideas, concepts, and thoughts.

When: Now until 17 March

Where: Streams Gallery, G/F, Mee Lun House, 2–4 Mee Lun Street, Central

Her artwork captures life’s small but poignant moments in a minimalistic, yet expressive way filled with colour. Through her art, she wants people to know that they are not alone in different moments in life, whether happy, sad, or both.

On 8 March, acclaimed mixologist and Pernod Ricard ambassador Jade Lau is stepping in on a guest shift at Cruise Restaurant and Bar from 6 pm to 10.30 pm. Lau will be mixing up her famous drinks inspired by her all-time favourite women-powered movies, Legally Blonde and Million Dollar Baby. Enjoy these drinks while the DJ mix-up tunes from female artists.

As a token of appreciation to all females, the hotel is giving away a special gift from female-run Women In Work (WIW) from 1 to 15 March to all checked-in females. The one-month WIW membership inspires women to empower and encourage each other by meeting up with like-minded peers. Included are also skincare goodies from female-run brands.
