VIDEO: Hit "Like" For Hong Kong

By Sophie Pettit 4 November 2015
You may remember Alex Rodriguez for his awesome mini-documentary Skate for Real, which last year won him forth place in an international competition run by Prime & Fire. Well, now the filmmaker is back with another gem and he needs your votes. This time around, Rodriguez is sharing his breathtaking Hong Kong Urban Tour for the global Sony Professional competition to win a brand new Sony FS5 camera. Falling under the theme "No Limits", the competition invites entrants to upload a two-minute film to YouTube and those which receive the most "likes" from November 1 to 15 will make the shortlist. Sony's expert judges will score each video on creativity and uniqueness, as well as the difficulty level of the shots captured, and judging by Rodriguez's cocktail of epic shots, he shouldn't have a problem winning them over. Jumping from slow motion to hyper-lapse, featuring both aerial shots and on-the-ground footage, the clip uses several techniques to capture the energy of our city. "I tried my best to show the soul of a journey in Hong Kong," Rodriguez tells us. "In this video I use several techniques to shoot around Hong Kong such as time lapse, hyper-lapse, drive-lapse, and a combination of slow motion and time-lapse. The topic is No Limits, so I decided to put no limits on my creativity and develop a Hong Kong tour in motion." In total, Rodriguez spent three weeks scouting locations, shooting, and editing the film, and even clamped his camera on to buses, taxis, and skateboards to capture epic shots of both Hong Kong island and Kowloon side which he felt was important to show. Rodriguez’s entry certainly has the advantage of our city's breathtaking backdrop along with its distinct features which he worked hard to include. "Visually, Hong Kong is a very powerful city and with its incredible sunrises, sunsets, lights, and sounds, I never feel bored. I wanted to show people this amazing city through my eyes," he tells us. All he needs now is his fellow Hong Kongers to support him by viewing, sharing, and hitting "like" on his video. So go on Hong Kong – let's win him that camera! Hong Kong Urban Tour
