Macau is synonymous with five-star hotels and hospitality, so it should not really come as a surprise to hear that it is home to an abundance of Michelin-starred eateries. With its high-end hotels and deep-pocketed investors, the region is known for its over-the-top luxury—much of which makes it into the prized Michelin guide.

Making their mark on the critics of the world, here are the best Michelin-starred and Michelin-recommended restaurants in Macau to try—though this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Five Foot Road

Taking guests back in time to old Sichuan, Michelin-recommended Five Foot Road begins the dining experience with an elegant tea saloon entrance, followed by the main dining room. Decked in ink mural art, the venue is sophisticated and luxe, emphasising its high-end vibe. Chef Yang Dengquan is well-versed in what he does best—Sichuan cuisine—serving up specialities from abalone to braised crab. Popular for banquet soirées, the dining room pays tribute to the glamorous events held at the mansions of Chengdu during the 1940s. Flavours are rich and technique-focused—not, as some may assume, centred on spiciness—and guests embark on a multi-sensory experience. As one of the most unique dining spots, gourmands can also indulge in the selection of wines and liquor to complete the evening.

Nestled within the City of Dreams, Yí is a winning feat perched on the twenty-first-floor Sky Bridge for towering views. Serving innovative fine-dining cuisine in an equally fine setting, the Michelin-recommended restaurant is famed for its degustation menu inspired by the 24 solar terms of the traditional Chinese calendar (節氣). As such, the menu changes 12 times a year to reflect seasonal ingredients and flavours. Equipped with experienced tea sommeliers, the acclaimed restaurant offers tea pairing services to enhance the experience, as they did back in the day. Embark on a gastronomical dining experience at this must-visit spot.

The Golden Peacock

Get the best of Indian cuisine at The Golden Peacock, a one-Michelin-starred contemporary restaurant serving updated traditional dishes from all parts of India. Located within the maze-like Venetian complex, guests may find it difficult to find, so be sure to ask around for directions. Once you see a bright neon peacock, you’ve hit the spot. Everything is made from scratch, while spices are ground in-house to ensure freshness. Open for lunch and dinner, the eatery serves up an enticing range of rich dishes that cater to the discerning palette.

The Kitchen

When you are in the mood for steak, The Kitchen is an ultimate go-to for the best beef in town. The sophisticated dining room houses a sushi bar, salad bar, and, of course, its signature steak curations. Located on the third floor of the Grand Lisboa Hotel, the steakhouse offers many alternative options in addition to beef—Wagyu from Australia, US prime beef, Dutch veal, and live lobster and fish from the tank. It’s been awarded one Michelin star for seven consecutive years by the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau. Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant is a prime stop for hungry carnivores who have yet to try this divine venue.

Robuchon au Dôme

Perched atop Grand Lisboa, Robuchon au Dôme is another great venture by the world-acclaimed Joël Robuchon. Serving contemporary French cuisine, the restaurant features a signature seven-course or eight-course menu to cover a range of flavours. With a whopping three Michelin stars (one out of three restaurants in Macau with the accolade), the spectacular eatery presents each of its striking dishes with visual and culinary flair. To finish, a trolley of fine desserts arrive in time for your sweet treat. Bon appétit!
