Take Your Mama Out! The Best Mother's Day Gifts

By Sophie Pettit 2 May 2018
While we all know that mums should be appreciated year-round, having a special day just for them is okay in our books. But if your mama is in Hong Kong, then why not treat her to more than just the classic card and flowers combination and go the extra mile this Mother's Day. Whatever your budget, these great ideas will show your special lady just how much you love her.

Treat Her to a Spa Day

Let your mama really put her feet up by treating her to a relaxing spa day or treatment at one of Hong Kong's gorgeous spas. The signature Unwind package at Sparadise (priced at $1,280 for 60 minutes) begins with a full body scrub and shower to wash away any pent-up tension. This is followed by a 75-minute aromatic massage, designed to put even the busiest of minds at ease and to leave you feeling relaxed and recharged. Meanwhile, the Ritz Carlton (pictured) offers a special day-spa package called She Deserves It! which includes a back massage, facial, and hand or foot massage which can be enjoyed while sipping on two glasses of complimentary champagne — how marvellous! And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the day ends with an afternoon tea for two at Café 103, overlooking the Hong Kong harbour. Now that's what we call a pamper session! Gifts for mums are priced from $2,680, and mother and daughter packages start from $5,380. Ritz Carlton, International Commerce Centre, 1 Austin Road West, Kowloon, (852) 2263 2263 Sparadise, 3/F-4/F, 60 Wellington Street, Central, (852) 2997 2208

Run Away to the Circus

Is your mum a big kid at heart? Then why not run away with her to the circus and catch the spectacular Cirque du Soleil show KOOZA. Held under the signature blue and yellow Big Top at Central Harbourfront, this jaw-dropping spectacle combines daring acrobatics and slapstick clowning around which is sure to get you both laughing, gasping, and hanging on the edge of your seats throughout. Why not treat your mum to a VIP cocktail and canapes session where she will get to take an exclusive sneak peek backstage after the show and look behind the scenes of this one-of-a-kind show. The VIP tours take place on Friday evenings – which doesn't quite fall on Mother’s Day, but will be a totally unforgettable experience. Bond Over a Bottle (or Three)

Maybe don't go out at all, but stay at home and bond over a gorgeous bottle (or three) of wine. If your mum is in serious need of some downtime, then the Mum's Time Out gift box (priced at $430) from our favourite online retailer WINE MOMENTS is the perfect remedy, and comes specially wrapped and with free delivery. Get comfy on the sofa and enjoy a good old catch up with your lovely mum and giggle at the adorable "MOM NEEDS wine" coasters. Alternatively, why not treat her to the Thank You Mum wine box (priced at $400) which includes a $200 voucher and a bottle of sparkling rosé (pictured above, right). WINE MOMENTS, (852) 2111 9291

Paint Her a Picture

Were your paintings stuck on the fridge by your beaming mum when you were a kid? Why not put your more mature artistic skills to work and create a masterpiece for her wall by taking her for an art jam session. Reconnect over a palette of paint at Oscary Art at PMQ. Painting sessions last four hours and can be conducted on either a 50x60cm canvas or a tote bag. Whip Her Up a Home Cooked Meal

She’s dished up countless dinners for you over the years, so why not return the favour and whip her up a home-cooked meal? If you’re worried that your culinary repertoire is more Maccies than Michelin, then a cooking course could be just the ticket. The Mixing Bowl offers a range of workshops from cake decorating to bread baking, and everything in between. However, if you mama really does know best, then she’ll be more than happy to impart her sage wisdom in the Mixing Bowl kitchen where you can leave the dishes behind.
