Sure enough, the devil is in the details, and we must say Lego has done a bang-up job of getting the tiny characteristics of Chinese festivities right. Keep an eye out for the fireworks, the little red packets being passed around the figurines, the candies and snacks for sale at one of the stalls, and even the little cabbage that is part of lion dance performances! Some of the set pieces are also interactive—you can pose the lions and open and close their mouths, for one. A total of 14 mini-figures will come with the set, and the family from last year’s Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner set makes an appearance as well, continuing the story of their Lunar New Year celebrations.
If you’re a Lego-head and already own the previous dragon dance troupe, dragon boat, and Lunar New Year feast sets, you will absolutely need to get your hands on these two additions—they’re going to look great when put together into a celebratory village. Unlike previous years, where similar special edition sets were Asia-exclusive, this year’s Lunar New Year sets will be available worldwide from January 10. These are going straight onto our Christmas wishlist!
