As part of the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) invited notable foodie Instagrammer Jen Balisi (@indulgenteats) to explore the flavours of Kennedy Town, a participating neighbourhood in the City Wine Walk programme.
A waterfront suburb on the western end of Hong Kong Island, Kennedy Town is a treasure trove of restaurants, bars, and cafés, and has been chosen as one of the dining destinations for this year’s Wine & Dine Festival, which runs from 1 to 30 November. Covering four different food-focused neighbourhoods, the City Wine Walk programme aims to showcase the wealth of dining and drinking options in Hong Kong—all within walking distance and with a convenient digital tasting pass.
Balisi started her exploration at Missy Ho’s, a speakeasy-inspired resto-bar that channels the look and feel of Shanghai in the Roaring Twenties. Packed with fun, fusion flavours, Balisi used her digital tasting pass to try the karaage with Sriracha and wasabi mayo, typhoon shelter-style chicken wings, and grilled aubergine skewers, all of which served to impress the seasoned foodie.
Next up was Alvy’s, a neighbourhood pizzeria that brings a taste of Brooklyn to Hong Kong. Alongside local craft beers from Young Master Ales and Hong Kong’s largest selection of American bourbon, Alvy’s serves up “Hong Kong meets New York” flavours with their inventive pies. Novel creations include the American Woman, a meat-focused pizza with pepperoni, ‘nduja, and toppings like crispy wonton chips; and the Triple B’s, with a Béchamel sauce base, Brussels sprouts, roasted apples, and bacon. Washing it all down with a draught beer, Balisi was already thinking about returning for another visit with her husband to try the entire range of pizza flavours!
