Cult-favourite ice cream brand Coolhaus has finally brought its animal-free ice cream product to Hong Kong! Following a more-than-successful launch at Coachella in 2009, Coolhaus has been revolutionising the way ice cream is made and consumed by striving to be animal-free, lactose-free, and planet-friendly. Here’s everything you need to know about this latest entry into the local ice cream market and what makes it unique amongst others.

Animal-free dairy?

Yes, you read that right. Strictly speaking, Coolhaus’s ice cream is not dairy-free, but it is animal-free. Using the pioneering technology from Perfect Day, the brand product’s silky goodness is made with a whey protein that has the same structure as dairy, but without the sometimes troublesome lactose and bad cholesterol found in milk.

How is this possible? It’s simple. Perfect Day’s dairy is fermented from microflora (tiny plants, fungi, or bacteria) in a lab without ever touching an animal. We won’t go so far as to say that Coolhaus’s flora-dairy range is as “healthy” to eat as fruits and vegetables, but it does prove to be healthier than your normal whole-milk ice cream.

What’s on offer

Cups

Coolhaus is bringing three flavours of single-serve cups to a 7-Eleven near you. The classic cookies and crème comes in cow-free creaminess contrasted with crumbly cookie bites, the molten chocolate infuses silky chocolate ice cream with chewy cake bites and indulgent fudge swirls, and the hōjicha introduces an aromatic taste with hōjicha from Kyoto.

Pints

Cookies and crème and molten chocolate both also come in family-sized pints (of course, we won’t judge if you don’t share yours) while the hōjicha flavour is elevated with chewy mochi boba pearls in the hōjicha and boba. If you’re looking for something even creamier to pair with your boba, why not try out the taro and boba for a sweet and nutty combo? Finally, the peanut butter and fudge is a showstopper with its perfect balance between the chunkiness of chocolate and peanuts and the smoothness of nut butter and fudge swirls.

Coolhaus’s pints are available at Wellcome locations. From 28 April to 11 May, however, shoppers can enjoy a 30 percent off on all flavours. Don’t miss out on this offer!
