McDonald’s Hong Kong is launching its first-ever themed exhibition at the M+ Arts Pavilion! On show for the next three weeks, “Coach McNugget Art World” is a unique exhibit exploring the cultural impact of the iconic fast-food item in Hong Kong. Read on to find out more about this immersive experience centred around everyone’s go-to Maccies order.
Curated around the theme “Please Share,” the exhibition takes visitors on an immersive journey that features multidisciplinary works from artists around the world.
The art display includes the “Team McNuggets” series by Korean-American designer VandyThePink who reimagines the brand’s iconic characters from the 1980s. Her merchandise is available for purchase, and the proceeds will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House charities in Hong Kong.
New York-based artist Jon Burgerman incorporates McNuggets into his signature whimsical creations, presenting new pieces inspired by every child’s first bite of the iconic treat, and Seoul-based artist Gyuhan Lee repurposes paper bags from McDonald’s into innovative light sculptures, using the brand’s logo as inspiration for patterns in his works.
Apart from artistic renditions of the iconic chicken nugget, a time tunnel set up at the Arts Pavilion showcases the rich and vibrant history of McDonald’s, alongside a brief account of the fast-food giant’s international reach.
“Coach McNugget Art World” further immerses visitors into the world of nuggets with interactive displays peppered across the exhibition, including a “Design-Your-Own McNugget Shape” workshop that allows visitors to let their imagination to flow without inhibition. Visitors can later see their masterpieces featured in the McNugget metaverse.
