Focusing on your health and fitness might be the last thing on your mind when you're dealing with exams, papers, and an active social life at university. Many people don’t pay attention to their health until a sickness catches hold and stops them in their tracks. However, ignoring your health may cause serious issues in the long-run, hence it is essential to invest some time in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Here are some simple tips that will help you stay healthy during your student days.

1. Pay Attention to Your Diet

Keeping yourself fuelled with healthy food is essential for dealing with the challenges that the day brings you. However, between classes and studying, it can become difficult to maintain a proper balanced diet. But there are some easy ways to make adjustments in your habits when it comes to eating. First of all, never skip breakfast. Even if you need to get to an early 8am class, it only takes one minute to grab a banana or a granola bar, which will set you off on the right foot. And always try to go for healthier alternatives to satiate those late-night cravings. Snacking in between meals can keep your appetite in check, but make sure that what you are eating is good for you. Try and maintain a good balance of dairy, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein in your diet.

2. Do Regular Exercise

Exercise can be a tough thing to fit into your hectic schedule, however, nothing is more apt than an early morning workout to start the day off right. Try to get up early in the morning and do some exercise, and if you are not the early bird type, you can always incorporate a workout into your schedule. Many universities offer fitness classes and sports programmes that you can get involved with, so there are always options. Check out these simple exercises that are designed to get you moving and staying active between studying and socialising with friends.

3. Get Enough Sleep

Partying all night or having late night study sessions is something that you have to do sometimes. However, don’t make it a habit. Remember, sleep deprivation can hamper your health by leading to fatigue and headaches. It also reduces your brain function and impacts your overall health, so make sure you get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night and also take a nap during the day if possible. 4. Cut Out the Stress

It is common knowledge that exams and studying bring out stress that adversely impacts your health. Therefore, it is crucial to stay relaxed in order to stay healthy. Some simple ways to ensure you have enough downtime from the pressures of student life include taking regular breaks between study sessions, setting aside time to hang out with your friends, doing some yoga, or meditating, which has proven to have extremely positive effects on your mental and emotional wellbeing. Here are some more suggestions on how to relax in Hong Kong.

5. Say No to Caffeine

When you are studying late at night, caffeinated beverages can be very hard to resist. However, these can be perilous for your health in the long-run. Having to rely on caffeine to sustain your energy is not a healthy option, so try to replace those beverages with high-protein, high-fibre foods to give you a boost. This will keep you nicely fuelled into the late (or early) hours, and you won't have to deal with the excruciating headaches that come with caffeine withdrawal too.

6. Stay Hydrated

Water is essential for your body to function properly, so make sure you drink enough water to stay hydrated and energised throughout the day. This not only helps in processing your calories, but also replenishes your body and keeps you away from fatigue. You can try adding fresh mint, orange, berries, or other fruits to your water to give it some extra flavour too.

Campus life is no doubt hectic, and it can wreak havoc on your health, but with a little diet care and lifestyle planning, you can enjoy a better quality of life. You can always consult a health and fitness professional if you need guidance regarding your health, but following these simple tips will help you become a healthiest version of yourself.
