Event Information

START DATE 23 Nov 2019
END DATE 24 Jan 2020
Rossi & Rossi, 6 Yip Fat Street, 3/F Yally Industrial Building, Wong Chuk Hang

Start the new year off with some spirituality! Rossi & Rossi is presenting this group exhibition featuring twelve artists from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, each offering their unique perspective on the relationship between god and people. This is a kaleidoscopic glimpse into various developments of the same religious belief under different historical trajectories.

Theatre of New Gods was inspired by the curator, Chris Wan Feng’s, field trip to research folk culture in Tainan and the rich diversity of folk religious activities, especially their respective theatrical rituals and timeless architectonic environs, that he encountered. Religion has always been firmly rooted in the spiritual interaction between deities and the human individual or collective, and in the constant re-imagination of such experience, we must acknowledge “divinity” is still being actively renewed and recreated. “New gods” in this sense are being reshaped in day-to-day theatrical performances, prompting us to probe into the humanity embedded in such practices.

Having lived in Hong Kong, Beijing, and London sure is a fun fact whenever people try to guess Ching’s accent. She loves switching between all these language channels and her “mother tongue” is just determined by how many drinks she’s had for the night! She loves movies, travelling, and exploring cities, from hidden alleys to gourmet dining, so feel free to hit her up if you need any suggestions for dinner!
