Soluna Fine Art presents the first solo exhibition of Jeong Myoung-Jo, the contemporary Korean hyperrealist painter. “The Paradox of Beauty” features 13 signature works depicting women in traditional hanbok (한복). Jeong’s paintings have implications beyond their surface beauty and the artist’s impressive rendering of fabrics and the human form. Iconographic interpretations of all elements on the canvas point to paradoxical meanings in beauty and status throughout Korean history. This exhibition presents an important address of women’s position in contemporary Korean society as well as society’s attitudes towards women.
