A joint effort by HKDI Gallery and Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM), “Unseen: The Making of Traditional Chinese Furniture” showcases traditional Chinese wooden craftsmanship in a contemporary time. Zoning in on the aesthetics and values tied to authentic woodworking, the event allows for learning about the craft via video documentaries, with real-life stories being shared by unpacking the role of wooden craftsmanship in academia, amongst the design community, and with regards to HKDI students themselves. The display also features a Chinese furniture project helmed by craftsmen Tse Shing-luen and Roy Ng and furniture created by Samuel Chen and Freeman Lau.
