BPK Ginka

The Batak-style Babi Panggang Karo (Karo roast pork), known as BPK, is a popular dish from the Batak Karo tribe. To make this dish, marinated pork is roasted and cut into small pieces. It’s served with gota sauces (spicy blood sauce), cassava leaves, sambal andaliman (Batak peppercorns), and hot steamed rice.

BPK restaurants can be easily found across Jakarta. Among the most well-known restaurants is BPK Ginka, serving pork with an ideal lean to fat ratio, resulting in crispy skin and juicy, thick meat.

In BPK Ginka, you can choose how much pork you want on your plate. Regular servings are available at Rp 30,000, while the jumbo ones Rp 50,000. If you want to have succulent pork chops for your next dinner with your family or the upcoming party with your friends, you can order BPK at 0.5 kilograms or 1 kilograms for Rp 100,000 and Rp 200,000 respectively.

While you are there, don’t forget to taste the local pride from Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra—the sarsaparilla soda Badak, which tastes like root beer. The fresh carbonated beverage is commonly found in Batak restaurants across Indonesia.

BPK Ginka has opened two outlets in the capital city—Kemayoran and Gambir in Central Jakarta.

Nasi Campur Afa Kalimantan

In Indonesia, pork dishes are synonymous with Chinese fusion foods. Pork is common in, for instance, major cities in Kalimantan with a strong Chinese presence. One of the many restaurants specializing in Kalimantan-style pork in Jakarta is Nasi Campur Afa Kalimantan. As its name suggests, the restaurant is serving nasi campur, or mixed pork rice, from Kalimantan, in which diners can enjoy small-sized pork dishes with a scoop of rice on one plate.

Enjoy Chinese-Kalimantan-style pork mixed rice with generous toppings of pork sausage, char siu (Chinese roast pork), pork belly, egg, and chicken meat with its signature thick broth. Pairing the mixed rice with a bowl of warm red yeast rice soup will surely keep you satisfied throughout the day!

While waiting for the waiter to serve your order, you can make your own sauce made of Bangka salty sauces, orange, and chopped fresh chillies. Song Sui is a soup of sweet-flavoured pork and pig offal complemented with a poached egg and crunchy pork skin.

The restaurant is open from 7.00am until the afternoon, when all of the meals are all sold out. If you plan to come during lunchtime, be aware of the lunch crowd as the restaurant isn’t equipped with air conditioners.
