On Australia’s southeastern New South Wales, Byron Bay is a coastal town offering a diverse array of sophisticated restaurants and bars. From the beachside gems to the countryside eats, the location is a calm respite away from city crowds—a region which truly reflects the sunny shores Austalia is best known for. If you are craving some dining indulgence, here are the best luxury restaurants to try in Byron Bay.

Three Blue Ducks at the Farm, Byron Bay

Since its launch in Sydney a decade ago, Three Blue Ducks has now expanded its locations over five regions in Australia, including the beachside Byron Bay. The brand has a strict ethos to focus on sustainable, organic, and locally sourced produce, and most of its ingredients are taken from the restaurant’s on-site farm.

Born of the surf by three travelling friends, The Ducks continues to cultivate a more sustainable approach to dining, with a shared belief in good ethical food. Dishes include the favourite miso-glazed eggplant with whipped tofu, best paired with the Australian craft beer selection or a glass of wine. There’s also a range of picnic hampers packed with all the good stuff, and brunch favourites, of course.

Town

As a café by day (Downtown) and restaurant by night (Uptown), Byron Bay’s Town restaurant is perched in the centre of Bangalow, a 20-minute drive from Byron. The sleek modern restaurant is helmed by chef Shannon Debreceny, a former colleague of famed Australian-Japanese chef Tetsuya Wakuda. Sample a variety of their exceptional, contemporary dishes—you will marvel at the taste.

Fleet

As one of the hardest restaurants (if not the hardest) to book in Byron Bay, Fleet is a 20-seater establishment nestled in the sleepy town of Brunswick Heads. The town has drawn in a range of discerning diners, who can take the drive along the stretch of coastline between Byron Bay and the Gold Coast. Wine and dine your way through the experience—which requires pre-booking of up to a few weeks in advance—at this ever-changing menu concept.

Comprising smaller portions for sharing, each dish focuses on minimal primary ingredients to keep the spotlight on the culinary technique. The tasting menu is a good start, with an additional cheese option. Each menu is tailored to your party at the time of the tasting, meaning the kitchen takes into account the individual preferences and dietary requirements of its guests before finalising the menu for the night.

Figtree

Famous for weddings, Figtree is also open to discerning diners on a stop through Byron Bay. Founded by Heather and Charly Devlin in 1981, the restaurant concept is simple—they wanted to convert an original farmhouse into a restaurant so that they could serve food grown and prepared by themselves. In 2005, Figtree was taken over by their son Che, who continued his parents’ legacy to what it’s become today—a popular countryside eatery for all. The picturesque restaurant features an ever-changing Australian-Japanese menu, with ingredients sourced from their own fig tree garden and orchards, then prepared in the family kitchen.

Bayleaf

A busy breakfast and lunch spot popular amongst hungry diners, Bayleaf takes you back with old-school throwback tunes and wholesome meals sourced from some of the best suppliers from the Northern Rivers. Try the unique seasonings—including the vegemite salt—for an enticing taste to delight the senses.
