VIDEO: The Lost Memory - Wildlife Conservation

By Sophie Pettit 14 July 2015
Forget The Lost World: Jurassic Park, because The Lost Memory: Hong Kong is the latest movie about to take audiences by storm. It may not feature scary dinosaurs or flashy CGI, but it does share the theme of extinction and the importance of wildlife conservation with a message that is far closer to home than we'd like to admit. Brought to you by 90WildBoy (an imaginative group of nature-lovers all born in the 90s) the wildly thought-provoking film tackles the controversial issue of animal product trading in Hong Kong. With its dramatic music and editing, and powerful message, it could well have the makings of the next Steven Spielberg blockbuster. "Without wildlife, mankind could not make a living," Wild Boy director Thomas Wong tells us. "This is the main message that we want to express through the video, because at the end of the story, every animal disappears and mankind will disappear too. "We wanted to arouse the awareness of wildlife conservation by creating a story-based video in which we choose three kinds of animal products to represent three kinds of endangered species: Shark, Elephant and Crocodile." The Lost Memory was produced as an entry to a competition called The Messenger of Nature, organised by the Hong Kong Scout Association and Jane Goodall Institute. Entrants were asked to create ways to promote information on endangered wild animals, and the Wild Boys captivated the judges with their visual masterpiece, winning them the competition and the top prize of an ecological trip to South Africa. "We're thrilled to have won the competition and we hope that our video will encourage audiences to reflect on human behavior," Wong tells us. "The alarm has been sounded, make a change, before it's too late. We have only one Earth." Well the message certainly hit home for us, but can we really accept this ending? Get Spielberg on the phone! Warning: this video contains some graphic and disturbing images. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBbfPOoxpRo   Follow the adventures of the Wild Boys on Facebook and Instagram.
