The Best Camps for Kids During the Chinese New Year Break

As we near the end of January, the Year of the Dog draws to a close, and in its place, the prosperous Year of the Pig begins. With schools set to close for a whole week, finding ways to keep your little ones entertained can be a challenge. So to help you out, we've rounded up the best creative and outdoor kids for camps this Chinese New Year.

Rumple and Friends

This troupe of trusted children’s entertainers have put together a performing arts camp to keep budding thespians entertained throughout the holidays. Young ones take to the stage for the week, with a mixture of dancing, singing, and arts and craft activities on offer, before the camp draws to a close with a final performance of The Magic Paintbrush. Rumple and Friends camps are led by a team of professional actors with extensive experience in leading performing arts activities for children. Faust International Youth Theatre

Help your kids usher in a new year of creativity with Faust World’s Dragons and Royalty camp. Taking place between February 7 and 9, the workshops are open for children aged between four and 13, and include a range of creative writing and drama classes that let imaginations run wild – from battles with magical dragons to brewing all manner of mystical potions and spells. Complete Deelite

Let budding Masterchefs loose in the kitchen over Chinese New Year at a Complete Deelite cooking class, where they’ll have the chance to bake, make, and decorate all manner of pig-themed goods. Piggy & Friends Baked Donuts workshops are held on the morning of February 2 and afternoon of February 12, while the Piggy Drip Cake classes are held on the morning of February 4 and afternoon of February 11, and Piggy Bao workshops take place on the morning of February 8 and afternoon of February 9. Atom Academy 

Atom Academy is a multi-activity centre for kids and teens, offering a wide range of creative and adventurous classes. Chinese New Year camps are available from February 4 to 12, and include arts and crafts sessions, gymnastics, creative science classes, and even K-pop and jazz dance sessions. A full schedule of activities can be found online. Little Picasso

If your little ones are ready to unleash their inner artist, and you’d prefer this didn’t find itself an outlet on the white walls of your living room, then a creative camp may prove just the ticket. Little Picasso offers just that. Its Paper Puppet Camp, held on February 4, 7 and 8, delves into the traditional patterns and puppetry seen over Chinese New Year, as well as lessons in scroll painting, creating lucky charms, and designing paper lanterns to take home for the Lunar New Year. Camps are available as one, two or three-day workshops, and are available for children aged three to five years (Camp 1A) and aged six and above (Camp 1B). Ark Eden

With more than 10 years’ experience in running outdoor camps for kids, Ark Eden provide an exploratory experience for children between five and 11 years old. Based out of a green site in Mui Wo, camps often include trips to nearby waterfalls, beaches, and even further afield to one of Hong Kong’s other islands. Chinese New Year camps run from February 4 to 12, and are priced between $670 to $750 per day. Each day’s activities are themed around a different outdoor experience, with a few Year of the Pig themed-excursions thrown in for good measure. First Code Academy

If you can’t seem to tear your kids away from the computer, then try to put an educational spin on their screen time. First Code Academy runs a Chinese New Year field trip and ‘app-jamming’ workshop for students aged nine to 14. There’s no previous coding experience necessary, so beginners and experts are all equally welcome.
