Catch Legendary Red Bull Music Academy Artists at Sónar Hong Kong

The world's best electronic music festival Sónar returns to Hong Kong tomorrow, bringing with it a music programming that is diverse, discerning, and decidedly different. Featuring the best international, regional, and local talent across six individual stages, the festival offers fans a supremely eclectic choice of live experiences at any given moment, from epic outdoor performances to intimate indoor sets and immersive audio-visual shows. We check out this year's line-up of artists who have worked with the Red Bull Music Academy workshops and music festivals supported by Red Bull.

Floating Points (solo live) (UK)

Not many performers can describe themselves as a ‘DJ, producer, neuroscientist’, but then again, Floating Points (aka Sam Shepherd) is no ordinary performer. Known for his complex and progressive electronic compositions, Shepherd serves up a cerebral yet driving sound that draws from house, techno, jazz, soul, and classical music to give the crowd a full mind and body workout on the dance floor. Laurent Garnier (FR)

One of the most influential DJ/producers of all time, famed for his ability to electrify crowds with his supremely danceable sound, Laurent Garnier has been making the planet dance for 30 years and is one of the pioneering DJs of the dance music scene. As one of the leading lights in French dance music, he spread his message across the planet, from raves to warehouse parties, and clubs to festivals. He is a multi-faceted artist whose impact on the music scene is far-reaching. But above all he is a DJ, a true DJ, transformed by music and his passion for the crowd. The Black Madonna (US)

Tech-house sensation, The Black Madonna (Marea Stamper) will be out to show why she was named Mixmag’s DJ of the Year in 2016, with a euphoric sound that also saw her close the 2017 Sónar festival in Barcelona in front of 15,000 rapturous fans. Her gregarious personality and ease at connecting with audiences are just some of the reasons why her worldwide followers are in the thousands — even Iggy Pop recently declared himself a fan! This year, following a US tour under the name “We Still Believe”, she returns to the festival thanks to popular demand, playing a prime time slot at Sónar by Night. Mouse on the Keys (JP)

Blending jazz, funk, and post‐rock with their own unique take on electronic music, Japan’s The Mouse on the Keys are one of those rare acts that defy categorisation. Known for delivering live performances that are as striking visually as they are aurally, the trio are playing something special at the Sónar Village at 5.30pm. Read more info here.

Keys N Krates (CA)

Toronto's hip-hop-loving electronic trio will be delivering their signature killer live show built around their sample-drenched debut album, ‘Cura’. Keys N Krates is a tight-knit trio composed of producers/performers - Turntablist Jr Flo, Keyboard player David Matisse, and drummer Adam Tune - who take rocking a party as seriously as a week spent in the studio. Begun in 1998, the Academy has taken the core principles that underlie its annual workshop for selected participants and applied this curatorial approach to events, lectures, and city-wide festivals throughout the year.
