"T8 Penguins" Storm the Web

  Few things are as adorable as a penguin, but how about one wearing a party hat and holding a balloon? This image, a simple guide to Hong Kong’s typhoon alerts, is making the rounds on social media today as a T8 storm whips across the island. It’s a design from Kokonuzz, a local brand founded by illustrator and serial entrepreneur Alexis Bautista. “I created [it] over a year ago for a Hong Kong inspired collection of designs with our brand’s characters,” says the Barcelona native as the winds race across Hong Kong. “We were just revisiting these designs yesterday to prepare a t-shirt collection…so when I saw T8 last night I decided to share.” How fortuitous! The image was picked up across Facebook and is continuing to be shared, mostly by those enjoying a late start to the day thanks to this T8. This design may just be the perfect storm to gain more attention for Kokonuzz as it expands its team with new investor dollars and starts the move towards mobile apps, video, and games featuring its characters. “We define ourselves as a viral entertainment developer and licensor (kind of a mix between Disney, Hello Kitty, and Angry Birds),” says Bautista. Even with big plans on the horizon, Bautista says he keeps the message simple. “We want to make the world a better place one smile at a time. Our philosophy: Be Happy, have fun, and let's go nuts!
