Led by the HKPhil’s music director, Jaap van Zweden, the programme opens with a spectacular performance of Wagner’s “Prelude and Liebestod”—the lush music unveils the dramatic sentiments of the tragedy that is sure to impress. It perfectly sets the stage for the upcoming rhythmic showcase in the second half of the concert.

Messiaen’s “Turangalîla-Symphonie” is a masterpiece of love and transcendence. From ancient resonances of the Indonesian gamelan to rhythmic structures of classical Hindustani music, this is an extraordinarily epic piece that you will surely love. Immerse yourself in the star-studded performances by world-renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Cynthia Millar on the ethereal electronic instrument, ondes martenot, which is a rare instrument to be seen on Hong Kong concert stages!
