Eco-lifestyle store Slowood has opened a fourth location in the newly renovated Central Market on Queen’s Road Central! The historical building used to serve the community as a wet market, but has now been transformed into three levels of retail shops, F&B outlets, and community and events spaces. You can find two new and exclusive sections in the new location—a Grab & Go kiosk serving breakfast foods for the morning crowd, an accessories corner with a spread of handmade trinkets inspired by nature, and an electronic refill station that is the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

Take your pick from sourdough loaves and vegan pastries from Alive Food and Ovule Bakery, possibly eaten with some black olive tapenade by Into the Wild Days, and artisanal bottles of Hong Kong-style milk tea from Mt Waves.

Accessorise consciously with delicate designs hailing from Japan and Taiwan. Uqui’s earrings and necklaces are made from seashells, sand, and stone, painstakingly collected by the founder on her visits to the sea and mountains. Hario’s glass accessories are handmade by craftsmen in Tokyo and around Japan since 1921. The exquisite craftsmanship makes it so that you can seemingly hang a cascading water droplet on your earlobe, or string a handful of dew around your neck. Bits of nature exquisitely cast in silver—a Camellia flower bud, a spring of red fruit, Magnolia flower buds—are the bread and butter of Kitano Mariko’s product offerings.

Juelry is an appreciation of the misshapen beauty of natural pearls intertwined with brass, and Haikou experiments with porcelain, fibre, and silver for unexpected and sculptural pieces suitable for everyday wear. A.M. Ideas uses bamboo and soft rush to make wearable pieces of art that live and breathe with you, so you can feel more in touch with nature.

You’ve heard of beer on tap, but have you heard of cleaning supplies on tap? At Slowood’s Central location is an electronic refill station with soaps, shampoos, detergent, and sanitiser on offer. No more pumping until your arms are sore!

Slowood will also be collaborating with Hiuman Lam, author of Hong Kong Reminiscence, on an exhibition focused on traditional grocery stores as a way to revisit the vestiges of old Hong Kong and our evolving relationship with eco-friendly living.

In celebration of the opening, Localiiz readers get $100 off for every purchase of $600 on their online store. Just use the code Localiiz2021CM when completing your online purchase, which is valid until 31 October 2021. Happy shopping!
