Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition to Open in April

By Amanda Sheppard 6 March 2019
The life and times of Vincent van Gogh have captured the attention of art aficionados for decades, and with the recent successes of Oscar-nominated film At Eternity's Gate, it's clear the hype is here to stay. Intrigued though you may be, getting up close and personal to the famed paintings was easier said than done in Hong Kong. Until now.

From April 6 to July 7, Kowloon Bay plays host to the world's most popular immersive art experience, Van Gogh Alive. The touring exhibition has visited everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Verona, and now takes up a residency in Hong Kong. More than 3,000 artworks are displayed on LED screens, across floors, ceilings, and walls. A classical music score emanates throughout the room, taking visitors on a journey through Arles, Saint Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise, where the late, great painter created many of his most notable pieces. Tickets cost $230 per person. Student and children's ticket are available at $190, while children under four can enter the exhibition for free. Tickets can be purchased in advance on Ticketflap. You'll be asked to book a specific time slot, and visitors are advised to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled slot to avoid any delays and to make the most of their experience.

Following a brief and bitterly cold stint in Scotland, Amanda returned to Hong Kong—a place she’s called home for over 18 years—to begin her career as a writer. She can often be found getting lost somewhere very familiar, planning her next holiday, and enjoying a cup (or three) of good, strong coffee.
