By Sarah Moran 27 December 2018
As 2018 comes to a close, food delivery service Deliveroo has revealed to us the most popular dishes ordered by its customers around the world, and to no surprise, a handful of Hong Kong eateries have made it onto the list. From refreshing bubble tea to flavourful Taiwanese noodles – here are the top five takeaway favourites in Hong Kong this year.

1. Bubble Tea from Tenren's Tea

Even though bubble tea – a type of Chinese milk tea with chewy tapioca pearls – has been around Hong Kong for more than a decade, our city's bubble tea craze has shown no signs of slowing down. Amongst many local bubble tea shops, Tenren is by far one of the most popular. Not only is Tenren's Bubble Tea in Hong Kong the fifth most ordered item on Deliveroo around the world, but it's also the only drink to have made it on the global 100 list. So for those who have yet to try this magical milky concoction, head to one of these locations around town now!

2. Pho Tai, BEP Vietnamese Kitchen, Hong Kong

Sitting on number 19 of the world's most ordered foods, is the BEP Vietnamese Kitchen's Pho Tai. The restaurant's classic Pho Tai carries a deliciously sweet, savoury, and tangy flavour, with a broth base made with ingredients such as beef bone and brisket, simmered for hours with the addition of chicken and pork bone to achieve a full flavour. The noodles are topped with thinly sliced sirloin, cooked medium rare, and a handful of herbs to pack in even more flavours.

3. Margherita Pizza, PizzaExpress

A fast food and party favourite, pizza remains the king of food delivery, so it's no surprise that Pizza Express's classic Margherita Pizza is the 23rd most ordered item around the world. Proving that despite the emergence of different fusion and innovate pizza, the classic combination of white mozzarella, green basil, and red tomatoes will always have a spot in our hearts, and stomachs.

4. TeaWood®, Teawood

Hongkongers are obsessed with noodles, and one of the all-time favourites is the classic Taiwanese stewed beef noodles from Teawood. Ranking number 36 on the list, Teawood's Taiwanese stewed beef noodles is a perfectly orchestrated bowl of spicy, savoury, and salty flavours. Fresh chewy noodles are topped with deliciously tender beef brisket, soaked in a rich and slightly spicy broth with a fistful of Chinese vegetables and cilantro.

5. Build Your Own Flat, MANA! Fast Slow Food

With an increasing amount of Hongkongers picking up the healthy eating trend, MANA! Fast Slow Food's Build Your Own Flat allows you to create your own unique wrap with wholesome oven-baked Zaatar Flats (flatbreads), topped with your choice from a range of fresh and delicious choices. No wonder it's ranked as the 48th most ordered item on Deliveroo!
