Asia Contemporary Art Show Reports Record Sales

By Localiiz 17 March 2015
A representative from the Asia Contemporary Art Show is reporting record sales from the four-day event that was held this past weekend as art lovers descended on Hong Kong for Art Basel and the city's satellite events. An exit survey of exhibitors indicated record sales of over $28 million during the four-day event at the Conrad Hong Kong. “Attendance also hit a record level,” says Mark Saunderson, Director of Asia Contemporary Art Ltd, as the 6th edition of the Asia Contemporary Art Show closed on Sunday March 15th. "We welcomed well over 10,000 art lovers from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, Japan, other parts of Asia, and many Western countries as well.” The inaugural Art Central also saw large crowds with almost 30,000 attendees during the show's March 13-16 run. Art Central took place at the new Central Harbourfront in a 10,000 square meter architecturally designed temporary structure with 77 galleries exhibiting work by more than 400 artists. Tim Etchells Co-Founder of Art Central says, “The amazing turnout has confirmed our belief that Hong Kong was ready for an international standard satellite fair. The feedback that we’ve received has been extremely positive from both visitors and exhibitors, with participating galleries reporting strong sales.” Art Central was brought to Hong Kong by the team behind ART HK, which went on to become today’s Art Basel. Tim Etchells, Sandy Angus, and Will Ramsay, founders of ART HK, and Charles Ross who was Managing Director of ART HK, oversaw the new fair. “People have been commenting about what a great young, energetic, and welcoming experience Art Central is,"says Angela Li of Hong Kong gallery Contemporary by Angela Li. "The weekend was incredibly busy and we have sold really well to top collectors from Hong Kong and China, and also to international collectors.”
