Just an hour away by ferry, Macau is host to all manner of fun. From a roll of the dice in the casinos to a day spent exploring the city's old ruins and unique black sand beach, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. But plan your trip wisely, because the territory also plays host to frequent festivals, concerts, and large scale events that are in themselves more than worthy of a trip to Macau. If you’re looking for a reason to set sail to our sister SAR, then we’ve got five.

This year’s event takes place from March 15 to 24 in venues across Macau, while recent inceptions have seen the inclusion of Man Booker Prize finalist Madeleine Thien and Pulitzer Prize winner Adam Johnson. Visitors can expect a programme filled with author-led discussions, live music performances, exhibitions, and cinema screenings.

Macau Grand Prix

Have you got the need for speed? The 6.2-kilometre street circuit that makes up the Macau Grand Prix has developed a reputation among gearheads, owing to its sharp turns and speedy circuit. Now in its 65th year, the Macau Grand Prix returns this November 14 to 17, promising to bring fans a fast-paced, adrenaline-fuelled race on one of the world’s hardest Formula 3 tracks. Senior editor

Following a brief and bitterly cold stint in Scotland, Amanda returned to Hong Kong—a place she’s called home for over 18 years—to begin her career as a writer. She can often be found getting lost somewhere very familiar, planning her next holiday, and enjoying a cup (or three) of good, strong coffee.
