As the Year of the Rat kicks off a new 12-year cycle (and in a brand-new decade, no less!), why not celebrate Chinese New Year in a way you’ve never done before—at the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Carnival! From the first day (25 January) all the way to the fourth day (28 January) of the Year of the Rat, the vibrant carnival will be held at the Art Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District, where visitors can witness the signature parade, as well as a variety of family-friendly elements for people to kick off an auspicious new year with their loved ones.
The four-day Chinese New Year Carnival will be held at the Art Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District, so you can take in spectacular performances alongside sweeping harbour views. This year’s carnival will boast the greatest number of international performing troupes in the event’s history, with 26 international teams and 22 local teams due to take the stage. First-timers include India’s V. Unbeatable, who rose to international fame on America’s Got Talent, and UPeepz and VPeepz from the Philippines, NBC’s World of Dance and HHI PH Varsity champions. Expect dynamic hip hop moves, hair-raising flipping acts, and captivating dances, and more to take your breath away.
To offer up a bit of respite from the exciting action, take a detour to the carnival’s photo hotspots, set against various backdrops incorporating Hong Kong’s skyline (which we’ll bet comes off especially mesmerising during sunset!). Aside from festive mouse cartoon characters to commemorate the Year of the Rat and other decorations, the little ones can delight in a giant inflatable of the caterpillar from children’s favourite The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Of course, no parade or carnival is complete without carnival foods, and the Chinese New Year market will feature 15 booths serving food and fun workshops, from flavourful Hong Kong, American, Taiwanese, and Korean snacks to workshops on balloon twisting and face painting to keep the children busy.
Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Carnival takes place at the Art Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District from 25–28 January. The opening hours of the Carnival are from 2 pm to 8 pm for all four days.
