We’ve waved goodbye to Typhoon Nida, and are looking forward to spending the first weekend of August lapping up the summer rays. From painting to PokéWalking, and cycling to shopping, you’re bound to find something that takes your fancy this weekend.

Paintbrushes at the ready! Unleash your inner Van Gogh and replicate his famous Starry Night painting at Artify Gallery this weekend. The latest instalment in a series of summer workshops, these afternoon sessions are the perfect opportunity to develop your creative skills under the guidance of talented local artist Jessie Siu. If you can’t make it this time around, don’t panic. There are workshops focusing on different artists every weekend throughout August – including an Andy Warhol inspired session on August 25 to 27.

Bossa Negra CD Release Party

Bossa Negra

Celebrate the Rio Olympics and party Brazilian style with Brazilian band Bossa Negra. Performing their new album, which has been seven years in the making, the unique sound of this multi-cultural group is bound to get your toes tapping. As the first Brazilian album to be recorded in both Mandarin and English, there will be performances in both languages throughout the evening, with professional Samba dancers to really get the party going.

Premium Sofa Club: Re-locating Party!


That’s right, Premium Sofa Club is back on the scene and it’s bigger and better than ever. Party-goers can check out the new Sheung Wan venue from 11pm, with DJs and sofas to keep them entertained. Just remember to pick up your tipple of choice en route to this BYOB venue.

Flower Workshops


Summer is in full bloom this weekend at Potato Head, with a duo of floral workshops to keep little hands busy, courtesy of local florist June In March. Kids aged 4 to 10 years old can choose from the Flower Crown and Flower Pressing Workshop – or if you can’t make it this time around, the Mason Jar Decorating and Flower Basket Workshop on August 27, while Mum and Dad kick back with a free coffee. Plus, with the launch of Potato Head’s kids menu, why not check it out and stay for lunch?

Promising a wheely, wheely competitive weekend of bicycle-based competition, the 14th Asian Indoor Cycling Championships and Hong Kong Open are taking over the Hong Kong Velodrome this weekend. Forget peddling round the track, Artistic Cycling and Cycle-Ball are the focus of this unique competition.

Fish for Trash: Aberdeen Harbour Clean Up

Marine pollution is an increasing problem in our city, and something that requires urgent action. Not only do plastic bags and bottles look undesirable, they also cause harm to Hong Kong’s local animal population and ecosystem. Volunteers of all ages are invited to hop on board and join the second Aberdeen Harbour Clean Up, which has fallen at a particularly good time in light of Typhoon Nida. All equipment will be provided – just remember to wear sunscreen.

Harmonic Motion
