The Mixing Bowl

Offering a range of cooking and baking classes for adults and children, The Mixing Bowl takes you back to basics and equips you with the tools to whip up a slap-up meal at home. Using simple ingredients and processes, kids’ classes also provide a great learning opportunity, giving tiny tots the chance to divide, weigh, and (when they get to taste the fruits of their labour) conquer. There are also several classes specialising in gluten-free and vegan dishes, as well as other specific dietary needs.

Corner Kitchen

On the tail end of Hollywood Road, this neighbourhood café also boasts a private kitchen, accessible from an entrance on New Street. Looking for a birthday party venue? Combine dinner and the evening’s entertainment with a cooking party at Corner Kitchen. Suitable for between six and 24 people, an afternoon or evening’s festivities typically last around three and a half hours and include all the ingredients you need to cook your choice of cuisine – from Spanish, French, Thai, Vietnamese, and Italian menus. BYOB is accepted and free of charge for the first three bottles. The venue also offers a free-flow package for three hours, priced at $250 per person.

Move over mermaids, there’s a new Instagram sensation on the horizon – the unicorn. Looking to recreate your favourite Cantonese classics at home? Martha Sherpa offers a range of Chinese cooking courses, from barbecues and marinades to dim sum, vegetarian dishes, and more. Half and full-day classes are available, using readily available produce from local supermarkets and wet markets. Martha is a firm believer that you don’t need new-fangled equipment to whip up a tasty meal – just a good wok and a hands-on approach to learning.

BiteUnite

Co-working spaces are cropping up across Hong Kong, but a co-working kitchen? Definitely something of a novelty here. But that’s exactly what BiteUnite is calling itself. This collective of chefs and foodie enthusiasts boasts a fully-equipped professional kitchen, from which they run frequent cooking classes, focusing on everything from cooking on a budget to how to pickle your own kimchi. ABC Cooking Studio

This Japanese cooking school has outlets in eight countries across Asia, from Japan to Indonesia. If you’re looking to dip your toes in the water, ABC Cooking Studio offers a number of trial lessons. For those ready to commit, the cooking courses lead you through the basics and help you on your way to becoming a baker ready to rival Paul Hollywood. With a focus on teaching, classes sizes are limited, and each group boasts a student to teacher ratio of four to one.

Yum Cha

Famed for its quirky take on dim sum, Yum Cha is now offering diners the chance to recreate their favourite morsels at a private Dim Sum Cooking Class. With options for both adults and kids, classes cater to between eight and 20 people, and are typically conducted in Cantonese, but can be done so in English, when requested. In just over two hours, you will master the art of making the perfect Siu Mai and custard bun, before tucking into a homemade afternoon tea set.

Gaggenau Culinary Masterclass

Twenty four of Hong Kong’s culinary masterminds are sharing their skills with members of the Hong Kong public for the Gaggenau Culinary Masterclass series. Chefs include Nicolas Boutin of Michelin-starred Epure and Daniel Calvert of contemporary French bistro Belon, among others. Each class is led by a different chef and limited to 14 students, giving those enrolled a chance to learn from the pros first-hand in a state-of-the-art kitchen.
