What’s better – a femme fatale of current times or a traditional rose of the past? Well luckily, you won’t have to choose, as celebrated Chinese master painter Qiu Shengxian brings ‘Sentiment’ and ‘Fashion Baby’ to Hong Kong’s Fabrik Gallery.
Qiu, who is known for breaking boundaries set by time and place, tradition and fashion in his work, gained recognition by integrating classical Chinese art with contemporary expressionism. Painted in oil and acrylic on canvas, his captivating pieces feature Chinese women dressed in oriental wear from the Qing Dynasty, but posing with pouty expressions that contradict norm of the time.
Go see the beautiful pieces from his two bodies of work at Sheung Wan’s Fabrix Gallery before July 19th. And for those of you with deeper pockets who would like to take one of these lovely ladies home, all of the pieces from the exhibition are for sale.
