The Weekend Ahead: April 9 - 10

The streets are heaving, the drinks are flowing, and it's socially acceptable to wear fancy dress at all hours. That's right, the Hong Kong Sevens is back! If a weekend of rugby madness isn't up your street, however, there are plenty of other events going on around town. From countryside sprints to live music performances, this weekend is definitely going to be one to remember.

Hong Kong Rugby Sevens

hksevens Fancy a scrum? The biggest sporting event in Hong Kong's calendar is back, and we can already feel the excitement bubbling in the city. Marking the 41st anniversary of the infamous Hong Kong Rugby Union tournament, a whopping 120,000 visitors are expected to fill the stands over the course of three days. Teams from all corners of the globe, including England, New Zealand, and South Africa, will battle it out on the pitch to snatch the title from defending champions, Fiji. Expect chanting, dancing, and costumes on a whole new level of bizarre. Come on Hong Kong!  When: April 8 - 10 Where: Hong Kong Stadium, 55 Eastern Hospital Road, So Kon Po How much: Ballot closed Click here for more information

Swire Series: Time for Three

time for three If the sound of chanting rugby fans isn't music to your ears - don't panic! Time for Three, a classically trained trio of string musicians, is touching down in Tsim Sha Tsui for a weekend of unique performances. Armed with two violins and a double bass, these talented musicians push the boundaries of how these instruments can be played, giving classical music a fresh twist, and delighting audiences around the globe. Wellness 360 Fair By the Beach

wellness 360 Riding high on a wave of popularity, the Wellness 360 Fair is returning for round five. Partnering up with Healthy Living HK, Lantau Mama, and Sommer Life, there will be a whole range of stalls, activities, and tasty treats to keep adults and youngsters entertained. From iridology to coconut madness, there are plenty of quirky and exciting things to check out. Driven by the desire to spread the wonder of healthy living and natural goodness, this feel-good event is well worth a visit. Eat More Art Workshop

Popsy Modern Kitchen, the Sheung Wan restaurant where artwork and dining come together as one, is hosting a series of workshops throughout April and May that are both creative and delicious. Under the guidance of Jennifer Chung, Popsy Modern Kitchen's founder, you will explore a particular art revolution and practice the specific techniques and drawing style. Bonaqua Lifeproof Action Sprint Sai Kung 12km

bonaqya The third and final installment of this year's Bonaqua Lifeproof Action Sprint series is to be held in the picturesque surroundings of Sai Kung. The 12km course will snake through the countryside, with truly awesome views to spur runners over the finish line. Due to new regulations surrounding river gullies, the course has had to be tweaked a little. However, with dirt trails, stone stairs, and country park roads in the mix, there's no doubt the Sai Kung sprint will be as exciting as ever. Don't forget to take your own drinks and water bottles - there is a water checkpoint en route, but a no-cup policy is in place. Country Parks Hiking and Planting Day

HnP2016_NeiLakShan_TreePlanting_42 Plant seeds for a greener future with Friends of the Country Parks and the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department on Sunday morning. In order to raise awareness of nature conservation, and in particular the preservation of trees, hikers are being encouraged to join the Country Parks Hiking and Planting Day in Lion Rock Country Park. Over the course of two hours, up to 1,000 volunteers of all ages will hike 4km through the beautiful setting of Lion Rock Country Park, soaking in breath-taking views along the way. Don’t panic if you don’t have a trowel to hand – all seedlings and tools, as well as tips and advice, will be provided once you reach the planting site. Dog Adoption Sunday

If you're crazy about canines, and longing for a furry companion to call your own, then get yourself down to Dog Adoption Sunday. Organised by Kirsten’s Zoo Charity, a not-for-profit volunteer animal rescue organisation, Rude Bar will be overflowing with furry faces looking for a new home. Their adoption events have proven hugely successful in the past, with animals of all shapes and sizes starting afresh at the side of their new, adoring owner. However, before you scoop up a pooch, please paws for thought and seriously consider if you have the time, resources, and space to welcome these loyal creatures into your life. Happy adopting!

 Let Us Shine Charity Concert

The Good Hope Singers are joining forces with Hong Kong's visually impaired performers for a very special, one-off performance. Over the course of three hours, a whole host of talented vocalists, including the Hong Kong Society for the Blind kids choir, will be stepping into the spotlight to charm the audience with their effortless harmonies and melodies. Raising funds for Music Through My Spectacle, a piano book created especially for visually impaired musicians, this charity concert is a fantastic way to appreciate our city's local talent and do your bit for the community too. Hong Kongers are being asked to donate unused and pre-loved cameras, which will then be passed on to children in need. A mouth-watering selection of Hong Kong’s finest eateries, including Golden Pig and MAMA Burger and Lobster, will be rustling up their signature dishes every Sunday until June 12, alongside some new creations crafted exclusively for the market.
