The Weekend Ahead: April 16 - 17

With the post Sevens blues hanging over the city, and the rain pouring down like there's no tomorrow, it's a good job there are so many exciting events to look forward to this weekend. From mind-blowing magic to international DJ's, it seems there's no end to the fun in our buzzing city.

The Illusionists

illusionists They've taken Broadway by storm, and now it's time for The Illusionists to work their magic on Hong Kong. This dazzling team of globally renowned magicians have an unbelievable night lined up, with each act proving to be more jaw-dropping than the last. Watch in disbelief as The Escapologist wriggles his way out of ties and chains whilst suspended over the audience, and try your best to comprehend how The Manipulator produces items out of thin air.  Third Culture Film Festival

tcff Kick back and grab the popcorn! After a hectic weekend of rugby, relaxing in front of the big screen is exactly what the doctor ordered. Celebrating the talent of undiscovered film makers, and hoping to establish itself as a platform for these artists, the Third Culture Film Festival is overflowing with cinematic excitement. The short film submissions, which totaled 1,800 from all corners of the globe, have been divided into six categories. Each category showing is two hours long and will be played over the weekend in California Tower. With categories as varied as Animation, It Ain't Disney, and The Darkness, there's definitely something to suit all tastes. Rooftop Yoga

Inspired by traditional hot yoga sequences, Alison Yu will be leading this open air session, which aims to connect your body and mind through movement and meditation. Each ticket includes one non-alcoholic drink and a Rooftop Republic membership, which entitles you to discounts at Colette's and the Fringe Vault cafe. Trailwagger

twagger This is one for the whole family - four-legged friends included. Trailwagger is a great opportunity to meet fellow dog walkers as you cover the 8km scenic route from Mui Wo to Discovery Bay. With a bowl of water waiting for each pooch as they cross the finish line, and a selection of prizes up for grabs, we've got a feeling this new event is going to be a big hit with the canine population. Plus, all funds raised will be donated to Hong Kong's less fortunate bow wows. Extra ferries are scheduled from Discovery Bay to the start line to ensure all hounds arrive on time. Cinderella: The Mini-Panto

cinderella After a hugely successful premier performance last year, the Hong Kong Players and the HK Down Syndrome Association (HDKSA) are partnering up for another mini-panto. Based on the Hong Kong Players' Christmas show, which was staged at Udderbelly last December, a whole of host of HKDSA performers will be stepping into the spotlight as characters from the classic fairytale, Cinderella. Expect big laughs, hits including Call Me Maybe and When You Believe, and a whole lot of enthusiasm from this cast of 7 to 35-year-olds. Encore!  When: April 16, (12.30pm - 2pm) Where: Grappa's Cellar, Jardine House, 1 Connaught Place, Central How much: $100 (includes one drink) Click here for more information

Reach Out Scavenger Hunt

The city is your playground this weekend, with the Chatteris Educational Foundation Charity Scavenger Hunt. Raising money for their Reach Out Summer Camps, which take less privileged students on educational adventures outside the classroom, teams of four will be racing across the city searching for clues and points. With prizes including hampers, wine, restaurant vouchers, and theme park vouchers, and a celebratory after party at Crafty Cow in Sheung Wan, we think it's time to start gathering together your best scavengers! Registration closes on April 14, so get your team together and get ready to hunt. If you don't have a team of four on hand, don't panic - there will be plenty of teams looking for extra members on the day.

Afrojack Presents: Jacked

afrojack Rocketing into DJ Mag's Top 10 Best DJs in the world, there's no doubt dance music maestro Afrojack knows how to work the decks. The Dutch DJ, record producer, and remixer is staging a one night takeover at Pacha, one of Macau's most prestigious party venues, promising to raise the roof until the early hours. With a glittering track record of collaborations with some of the world's biggest stars, including Beyoncé, Madonna, and David Guetta, this is a party you definitely don't want to miss. Children's Bookfest at The Repulse Bay

With a James and the Giant Peach photo booth, a talented face painter, and captivating story telling sessions throughout the day, your youngsters won't want to leave! In addition, the schedule is overflowing with workshops, from cartoon strip masterclasses with cartoonist Larry Feign to wooden block character puzzles - the perfect way to keep little hands busy. The Foam Run

The Foam Run is a vibrant event for the gentle jogger, hosted in aid of the Hong Kong Institute of Diabetes and Obesity. This untimed 5km route takes participants in a circular route in Tai Wai, along a beautiful river-side path, and through multiple walls of multi-coloured foam. Prompted by the rising issue of childhood obesity in Hong Kong, it is hoped that this imaginative take on a charity run will encourage more people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and get active. Make sure you sign up in advance as tickets will not be sold on the day.  Yoga on the Beach

Hong Kongers are being asked to donate unused and pre-loved cameras, which will then be passed on to children in need. Whilst you are hanging out at Wan Chai’s swankiest street, check out the stunning shots captured by National Geographic Photo Contest 2015 prize-winner, Kelvin Yuen (pictured). At just 19 years old, and with only 18 months of photography experience under his belt, his images are truly breathtaking. Tong Chong Street Market

A mouth-watering selection of Hong Kong’s finest eateries, including Golden Pig and MAMA Burger and Lobster, will be rustling up their signature dishes every Sunday until June 12, alongside some new creations crafted exclusively for the market. In addition to tasty food, there will be a delicious range of fresh farmer produce on sale, tips for growing your own crops, and a sustainability corner selling seeds to raise money for Hong Kong charity Food Angel. Pooches are welcome to join in the fun, and please remember to bring your own bags!
