BREAKING NEWS: Observatory Considers Raising T8 Signal This Afternoon

By Sophie Pettit 9 July 2015
The Hong Kong Observatory is considering issuing the No.8 Gale or Storm Signal this afternoon as Typhoon Linfa edges closer to Hong Kong. The No.3 Signal was already hoisted at 8.40am this morning, leading schools to suspend classes as Hong Kong began to batten down the hatches in preparation for the tropical storm. At 2pm, Linfa was estimated to be about 170km east-northeast of Hong Kong, and is forecast to move west at about 18km per hour in the general direction of the Pearl River Estuary. 150709 - T3 signal A spokeswoman for the Observatory said that even though the storm showed signs of weakening, its intensity was not expected to change rapidly and it is likely to bring heavy squally showers and swells our way. Linfa is expected to come closest to Hong Kong tonight and tomorrow morning and the Observatory will consider issuing the No.8 Signal this afternoon. Keep your eyes peeled by checking the Observatory website. In the meantime, stay safe Hong Kong!
