Taste the World in Hong Kong Restaurant Week: Top Five Picks on a Platter

By olivia_james 21 February 2014
If, like us, your relationship with food far transcends its ability to provide much needed nutritional value, and you often find yourself giddy with excitement at the thought of which delicious treat will next find its way into your mouth, then we come bearing good news. Restaurant Week, a concept so divine in its conception it has rendered foodies around Hong Kong weak at the knees, is upon us once again! Who could fail to be titillated by a whole week dedicated to the city’s top-tier restaurants and their myriad of culinary delights? And the icing on the cake? All Restaurant Week treats come at amazing discounted prices, with three-course lunches starting from HK$98 and dinner sets starting from HK$258. So whether you are a dedicated palate pleaser, have a hoard of hungry friends to feed or you’re looking to escape the proverbial doghouse after a Valentine’s Day dinner disaster, this is the week to satisfy stomachs of all shapes and sizes.

With over 80 restaurants serving up their most mouth-watering menus, the cruel fact is that it’s impossible to sample them all. But fear not honoured food fans, for we have chosen five delectable restaurants offering differing cuisines, so you can take a culinary cruise around the world without ever straying more than five minutes from the nearest MTR!

The Spanish Sensation at Lux Bar & Tapas Situated in the bustling heart of LKF, Lux Bar & Tapas describes itself as the place to “see and be seen”. But with the selection of tapas on offer here, the only thing you’ll be seeing is what’s brought to your table, and the only way you’ll be seen is with a face full of scrumptious Spanish food! While tradition may dictate that a jug of sangria should always accompany tapas, Lux’s selection of award-winning cocktails will have you happily casting aside such an outdated notion in favor of their inspired liquid creations. With an alluring interior set to dazzle its patrons and a magnificent menu to match, Lux guarantees to satisfy every salivating Señor or Señorita.

Price: During Restaurant Week, Lux is offering a three-course lunch for HK$158, and a three course dinner for HK$328. Address: UG/F to 1/F, 21 D'Aguilar Street, The Plaza, Hong Kong Book: Here

Middle-Eastern Enchantment at Olive Greek & Middle Eastern If your Restaurant Week adventures leave you eager for an array of Middle Eastern delights, then Olive should be at the top of tasty travel schedule. Its seductive ambience compliments its rich Middle-Eastern menu, both of which provide patrons with the authentic elements characteristic to the cuisine it so successfully seeks to honour.

Journey to Japan with Youka The Youka experience is one to be savoured by every Japanese cuisine enthusiast. How better to hone your chopstick skills than by devouring one of Youka’s signature dishes, such as the Grilled Japanese Kagoshima Beef or stewed Hokkaido Kinki Fish? Helmed by veteran chef Ito Katsuhiro, Youka guarantees a meal to remember. If the sight and taste of your dish is not testament enough to Katsuhiro’s commitment to preparation and presentation, then the open atmosphere that allows diners to scrutinize his work will provide first-hand proof.

Italian Intrigue at Manzo Italian Steak House The pearly gates to Steak House Heaven are always open at Manzo, which is convenient, as steak fans are sure to die with happiness upon seeing the selection of exclusively farmed red and black angus beef, USDA prime and Australian Wagyu on offer at this Causeway Bay classic. If others in your party (namely veggies) are not as enthralled by the idea of a succulent steak, then fear not, as Manzo is also well known for its superb antipasto presentation and selection of homemade pastas.

Fine Chinese Dining at Above and Beyond When first sitting down to eat, you would be forgiven for thinking Above and Beyond’s moniker is inspired purely by the stunning skyline the restaurant looks out onto. In fact, this is only partly the case, as while the views from the 28th floor are indeed breathtaking, the food is equally exceptional. Upon tasting the expertly prepared dim-sum and seasonal Cantonese cuisine for which this established gem is known, it becomes clear that not only are you seated floors ‘above’ Hong Kong’s impressive urban jungle, but your taste buds have also been taken ‘beyond’ cloud nine. Did we take this metaphor too far? Price: Above and Beyond is offering a three-course lunch for HK$248, and a three-course dinner for HK$438 Address: Level 28, 17 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Hong Kong Book: Here
